noun
A percussion instrument. A hi-hat stands for a combination of two cymbals faced each other and a pedal, all mounted on a metal stand. It is a fundamental element of a drum kit. The bottom cymbal of a hi-hat is fixed and the top is mounted on a rod which makes the top cymbal move towards the bottom one when the pedal is depressed. The position of a hi-hat when the top cymbal touches the bottom one is called a closed hi-hat.
