noun
A clef that is used for instruments playing low pitches, such as double bass and bass guitar, bassoon, cello, trombone, or tuba. The bass clef, with the clef placed on the fourth line of the stave, is the only F-clef still in use, hence, one may notice both terms used as synonymous.
