As a class, students will vote on a song that is appropriate, upbeat and that will be easy for them to create dance moves to.
The song will be split up into sections for each group. The teacher will film each group presenting their part of the song and create an iMovie for the whole song, using all the videos for each section.
Students will work on their dance each week and present in Lesson 9.

Lesson 4: The Use of Props in Dance
Your teacher will reveal the winning song choice for your class dance.
Discuss the styles of dance learnt so far.
Why do you think people use props in dance?
How are they effective?
Do they link to the song? Add another element?
They only work or are effective if used correctly.
Watch some examples of using props and how effective it is to the whole routine below:
Canes, Umbrella, Cardboard
Go with your group to discuss a part of your dance you could use a prop in and work out how you can incorporate/ make it.
See if you can find the props you'd like to use in your Dance in the Creative Arts Room.
Your teacher will tell you what section of the song your group is choreographing dance moves for on Google Classroom. Listen to your part of the song and start to think about ideas.
Lesson 5: Elements of Dance
Watch the Evolution of Dance video and Dance along. Think about the ways the group made each dance effective.
Think about formations, shapes, transitions between dances, movement, levels and tricks.
How can you incorporate different levels, shapes and transitions in your dance formations?
Could you incorporate tricks into their dance? E.g. Cartwheels, flips, breakdance moves.
It will depend on the ability of the students in your group and if you are using gymnastics mats to practice on so it is safe.
Look at the Dance Project planning sheet. You must use this in your groups to plan your dance section for the class song.
You need to incorporate 1-2 Dance Craze Dance Moves, 1-2 different dance styles, and 1-2 elements such as: Props, formations, shapes, tricks, etc. in your dance.
Go into your groups and plan your dance using the sheet.
Lessons 6-8: Dance Project
Warm up: I Gotta Feeling- Just Dance 2016
Over the next 3 lessons, you are working in your groups on your choreography for your section of the class dance.
Groups are using their planning sheets to ensure they are including all the styles and elements required.
This is an Assessment Task for the Unit.
You can use props and costumes from the Creative Arts Room cupboard to add elements to your dance. You can use gymnastics mats outside to practice any tricks for your dance.
Your teacher will make their way around to each group each week to watch your progress and give ideas/advice, keep you on track.
You will be presenting in Week 9 for filming.
In Lesson 9 – Groups present their section of the Dance to the class.
The teacher films the performances on an iPad.
Over the next week, the teacher creates an iMovie, editing all the groups’ clips together to make a video for the song.
In Lesson 10 you will watch the video and complete your self-evaluation reflection sheet.
Your teacher will share the class dance video on Google Classroom for you to share with your parents.
