Kent E. Altom is a native of North Carolina and has lived in six southeastern states. As such, he is a self-proclaimed aficionado of fine barbecue sauce.
Mr. Altom received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Management) degree from Samford University (1992). He earned his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law where he was a member of The Order of Barristers (Trial Advocacy), a Cordell Hull Teaching Fellow (Legal Research and Writing), and the recipient of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Medal of Excellence (Business and Consumer Bankruptcy).
In addition to his undergraduate and law degrees, Mr. Altom earned two graduate degrees prior to enrolling in law school—the first in theology (1997) and the second in ethics, magna cum laude, from Emory University (1998). He is also a graduate of Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business, earning his Master of Business Administration (2025).
Following his law school graduation, Mr. Altom completed a two-year federal judicial clerkship with the Honorable Thomas B. Bennett (Chief Judge, Retired) of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama. He is a Martindale-Hubbell® AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated Attorney. Mr. Altom is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia as former member of its Board of Governors as well as a Past Chair of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Law Section, the Bar’s largest Section. He is a current member of the Professionalism, Business Court, and Insurance committees.
Mr. Altom practices law at The Gilroy Firm in Atlanta. His legal practice is 100% related to litigation with an emphasis upon commercial and residential real estate and business and consumer bankruptcy. He also handles select personal injury and criminal matters. Mr. Altom is admitted to practice law in all federal and state trial and appellate courts in Georgia and Alabama.
Mr. Altom also teaches business law, negotiation, and business ethics courses at Kennesaw State University’s Coles College of Business, having previously taught such courses at the University of North Georgia’s Mike Cottrell College of Business.
Mr. Altom loves practicing and teaching law, feels fortunate to work alongside bright and committed professionals, and strives to be the most prepared attorney and professor when he steps into the courtroom to represent his clients and the classroom to teach his students.
