“IC2LC” stands for “Individual Contribution to Learning Community.” Our class is a learning community. As such, in addition to the professor, each student must contribute, not only to his or her own learning, but also to the learning of other students. The IC2LC Project is one way each student will contribute to our learning during Class Sessions. The IC2LC Project, which consists of (1) a Written Case Brief, and (2) an In-Class Case Presentation, will be introduced orally in a Class Session during the first week of the semester and each student will choose the court case and presentation date of his or her IC2LC Project by signing-up no later than the date identified in the Course Syllabus/Course Schedule.
If you submit a completed “Official KSU Writing Center Extra Credit Form” evidencing you attended at least one 50-minute, in-person session in the KSU Writing Center, up to ten (10) extra credit points will be added to your IC2LC Project grade. To receive credit for the IC2LC Project, you must turn-in the following documents in this order (each document must be stapled separately, and all documents must be contained in a two-pocket presentation folder):
Right Pocket (Required):
1.) “Final Version” of Written Case Brief (required, and must be no less than three pages and no more than five pages, be double-spaced, and have half-inch margins and 12-point Times New Roman font).
2.) “First Draft” of Written Case Brief (required, and must be marked-up, evidencing a serious effort of self-editing; ten (10) points will be deducted if either not turned-in OR does not evidence a serious effort of self-editing).
Left Pocket (Optional):
3.) Completed “Official KSU Writing Center Extra Credit Form” evidencing you attended at least one 50-minute, in-person session in the KSU Writing Center (optional, but required to receive extra credit points).
4.) “Writing Center Draft” of Written Case Brief taken to the KSU Writing Center (optional, but required to receive extra credit points).
In addition, you must also properly and timely SCAN and UPLOAD (1) the “Final Version” of the Written Case Brief, and (2) a complete, readable, and unmarked copy of the case itself as ONE DOCUMENT IN PDF FORMAT via D2L under the Assignments tab by your IC2LC Project due date and time.
You must have the technological capability and ability to SCAN and UPLOAD (1) the “Final Version” of the Written Case Brief, and (2) a complete, readable, and unmarked copy of the case itself as ONE DOCUMENT IN PDF FORMAT (i.e., no other formats will be accepted: no submission consisting of multiple pages or files, in Word document format, of photos or pics—jpegs or otherwise; of a link; in a format that requires various online software programs). If not, you will not receive a grade above 70/C.
Do not include your name on any part of your IC2LC Project; utilize your three-digit Student No. (not your KSU ID number), which I will provide. If your name appears on any part of your IC2LC Project, you will not receive a grade above 70/C.
Your IC2LC Project, which accounts for 20% of your Final Grade, will be graded as follows: the written communication portion of your IC2LC Project (Written Case Brief) will be graded on a scale of 0 to 50 points as follows (i) self-critiqued, utilizing a matrix I will provide; (ii) peer-reviewed by one or more other students, utilizing a matrix I will provide, and then (iii) professor-graded, and the oral communication portion of your IC2LC Project (In-Class Case Presentation) on a scale of 0 to 50 points as follows (i) peer-reviewed by one or more other students, utilizing a matrix I will provide, and then (ii) professor-graded.
No credit will be given for an IC2LC Project that is not timely turned-in.
Note: Because the written communication portion of your IC2LC Project (Written Case Brief and In-Class Case Presentation) will be self-critiqued, peer-reviewed, and professor-graded, your IC2LC Project grade will be calculated and posted in D2L at the end of the semester.
To do well on your IC2LC Project, you must:
1.) Dress for success;
2.) Demonstrate “superior” knowledge of each aspect of the case;
3.) Demonstrate “superior” knowledge of each relevant course topic;
4.) Demonstrate “developing” skills as a presenter;
5.) Demonstrate the ability to relate each aspect of the case to the relevant course topic, generally and specifically;
6.) Develop your own insights beyond what is provided in the case and the textbook (e.g., “crafting alternative solutions” (yet, this is not a research project, meaning although you may utilize outside resources, no additional credit will be given for your doing, however, proper attribution and citation is required if outside resources are utilized);
7.) Effectively utilize visual aids (presentations and handouts) (any use of technology or recorded video or audio must include closed captioning);
8.) Make effective use of time and strictly adhere to time and space limits;
9.) Timely and properly submit Written Case Brief and In-Class Presentation; and
10.) WOW!!! your audience (including your professor who has seen your case presented by students many times (and, therefore, knows what is possible), in addition to his having presented your case many times himself).
Note: Your IC2LC Project grade will be calculated and posted in D2L at the end of the semester.
