While Perplexity helped identify environmental issues such as heat, humidity, sun exposure, sea breeze, and courtyard ventilation, ChatGPT was used to develop the conceptual and spatial direction of the project. It helped connect Alexander Calder’s mobiles and stabiles with architectural ideas such as balance, movement, tension, reflection, lightness, and spatial sequence.
This stage focuses on how the concept “Stillness in Motion” can become a clearer design strategy for the Studio Retreat. ChatGPT was used to question how the courtyard, circulation, materials, and spatial organization could make the building feel like living inside one of Calder’s stabiles without becoming too literal or decorative.

My Reflection ChatGPT helped develop the conceptual direction of the project by connecting Alexander Calder’s ideas of movement, balance, lightness, tension, and shadow to architectural space. It was useful for clarifying the concept of “Stillness in Motion” and for explaining how the courtyard, circulation, wind, and sea view could work together as one design strategy.
However, the AI-generated sketch was not fully successful. The image made the walls appear too solid, grounded, and heavy, which conflicted with Calder’s sense of lightness, suspension, balance, and floating form. This showed that AI can sometimes translate the concept too literally or create a visual result that does not match the design intention. Because of this, the output was used only as a starting point. The next refinement should make the building feel lighter, with lifted forms, thinner structural elements, open voids, floating planes, and more movement through air, shadow, and space.

Using ChatGPT helped me turn the site analysis into clearer design decisions. The concept “Stillness in Motion” became more architectural because I connected stillness with the courtyard, reflection, and sea view, while motion was expressed through wind, circulation, light, and shadow.
This process also helped me avoid making the Calder inspiration too literal. Instead of copying mobiles or using decoration, I revised the design to focus on lightness, open voids, lifted planes, thin columns, suspended screens, and a courtyard that works as both a reflection space and ventilation core.
