Lost Slippers

Artist's Statement: This work was inspired by the loss of recognition many athletes face.  Cheerleading and Dance are two sports that have been a huge part of my life, yet still the dedication I give tends to be unrecognized.  I chose to show that these shoes can tell a story.  The things we wear on our feet tend to go unnoticed so I chose to photograph the intricacies of these shoes.  Each wrinkle, each crease, each mark, demonstrates the journey that has been walked, danced, and jumped through.  By doing this work I learned photographers truly create the meaning behind their photographs.  Photographing something special to me has helped me connect to the story I am portraying.  When looking at my work, I hope that viewers will learn to recognize that hard work will always show, in some way or another.  It may be winning an award or it may be through a crease in your shoe’s sole.
