A seminar course featuring lectures by scientists around the SF Bay Area currently working in the biotechnology industry, academia and government labs. Learn about the vast number of career pathways in science and network with scientists in the field. Appropriate for all levels of students.

What we do in Briefings in Biotechnology
Each class a different SF Bay Area scientist will present their personal journey and how it led to their current career in science, as well as discuss their work and research.
Engage with SF Bay Area scientists from diverse backgrounds and topical areas of Biotechnology and Bioscience.
Lots of time for questions and discussion with each speaker.
An appropriate class for all levels of students who want to learn more about the diversity of careers available in biotech.

Programs: BTEC 5 is an elective for the Biotechnology AS degree, and recommended for the Stem Cell Technology and the Biotechnology Certificates
Andrea Cortez, Sr. Pilot Plant Technician at Genentech & CCSF alum, talks about her journey from the Phillipines to the CCSF Biotech program to a fulfilling career at Genentech.
Shayan Hosseinzadeh, Research Associate at CZ Biohub & CCSF alum, talks about his research in single cell genomics and microscopy at the Biohub.
Dr. Grisel Ponciano, researcher at the USDA, talks about her journey from Guatemala to PhD to scientist researching natural rubber at the USDA.
Rocio Gomez, Technical Sale Consultant at BioTek, shares her journey from an immigrant farming family to a Masters in stem cell biology at UCSF and her current work with high end microscopy and microfluidics at BioTek.
