The Bridge to biosicence Pathway

courses for the First Semester

We recommend students start the the Bridge to Bioscience with the math skills needed in the laboratory (BTEC 108A), an introduction to biotech lab skills (BTEC 14A), and a introduction to biology (BIO 11). These courses are the minimum enrolment for the first semester. Consult with Biotechnology Program faculty for other courses to take in first semester (request more information below).

  • BTEC 108A: Practical Mathematics I (2 units) – learn the math needed in science courses. Concepts, techniques and applications of arithmetic and elementary algebra emphasizing applications to practical problems. Interactive and traditional problem solving methods. Class interactive group exercises applying mathematical techniques to various applications and real world problems.

  • BTEC 14A: Biotechnology Laboratory Techniques (3 units) - A laboratory focused introduction to laboratory techniques needed for entry-level positions in the biotechnology industry, especially in the research field.

  • BIO 11: Science of Living Organisms (4 units) - The major concepts of the biological sciences including biochemistry, cells, evolution, genetics, bioenergetics, microbiology, botany, mycology, zoology, ecology, and biotechnology
