Associate Degree in Biotechnology

The Biotechnology Program at City College of San Francisco offers students specialized training for employment as bio-technicians engaged in research and development, and a variety of biomanufacturing disciplines.  All students in this field of study complete the required core courses.  The program advisers work closely with each student to assure progress.  Upon successful completion of the curriculum, students receive the Associate in Science degree with Biotechnology as the major.

A.S. Degree requirements

Employment  

Students who complete the curriculum satisfactorily are qualified for positions as quality control, research and development, and biomanufacturing technicians in research labs and biotechnology companies.  A sample of employers who hired our students: Biomarin, Bionovo, Inc., Cel Analytical, Coda, CPMC Research Institute, Cytokinetics, Evolve Biosystems, Genentech, Gladstone Institutes, JEFX Sanitation Consultation, Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI), Nektar, Prosetta Biosciences, Inc., USDA WRRC, University of California San Francisco (UCSF)

Preparation for transfer to four-year degree program

Some transfer courses can be used to satisfy requirements for the Biotechnology AS degree.  Students who wish to transfer to a biology program at UC/CSU will need to take additional courses after completion of the Biotechnology AS degree.  Contact Bob Del Vecchio (rdelvecc@ccsf.edu) for more information about transferring.
