I received my B.Sc. in Biochemistry from UC Santa Barbara in 2014. While my academic experience there as very thorough and technical, without much research experience, I didn't leave college with the confidence in my wet lab skills that it takes to get a job in academia or industry.
After some time away from bench work, I decided I wanted to return to a career path in research. The program at City College refreshed the fundamental skills, as well as taught me new ones, necessary for work in research or biomanufacturing. Within my first 6 months in the program I had an internship doing research at the Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub, a new biomedical nonprofit.
Now, after completing the program, I have a full time job doing research developing desirable skills such as next generation sequencing and protein purification and I'm on the path of applying to graduate school. The courses at City College prepare you for practical, real world application of relevant biotechnology techniques and I wouldn’t have had this opportunity without the instruction from this program.
