This project focused on the use of an engine lathe, as well as reading and interpreting engineering drawings. We were given engineering drawings for a previously-designed paperweight, and tasked with reproducing it exactly out of two pieces of brass stock, using an engine lathe.
To determine if I had reproduced the paperweight correctly, my instructor took a number of measurements of my item and compared them to the official values.
The top and bottom halves of the paperweight are held together by a hidden screw. The final paperweight was polished and sprayed with a clear enamel coating.
