I built a "4 sun, 8 step" puzzle box based on traditional Japanese designs using basic plans obtained online. To make the box, I used a laser cutter to cut 31 individual panels out of 1/8" basswood, which I meticulously glued together to form interlocking sliding panels and hidden latches.
It was necessary to be patient and to carefully consider each step before gluing, as any gaps or misaligned panels would prevent the box from opening. Ultimately, my cautious work paid off, yielding a well-constructed box that opens smoothly and does not reveal its opening mechanisms.
