Chronic Pain and Trauma

Did you know that childhood trauma and abuse may be linked to pain experienced during adulthood? TheNational Pain Report found that seven out of 10 women with chronic pain had experienced at least one incidence of trauma or abuse during childhood. Many psychologists believe a connection exists, because childhood trauma can “rewire the brain and central nervous system” (“Childhood Trauma and Adult Pain,” 2014). Experiencing trauma or abuse changes a child’s brain and body, and can be associated with migraines, fibromyalgia, and other chronic pain that develops later in life.
