Basic school system’s policies, specifically PGCPS:
Safe Schools training must be completed at the beginning of every school year. Failure to complete and submit proof of the training will exclude you from being assigned to a school.
You must sign in and sign out each time they enter and exit schools
You must wear school system's identification at all times
When you work with students, be in the view of other adults, do not work behind locked doors, and do not work in a room with a closed door without a window or outside of public view
DO NOT use student restrooms
DO NOT date, have sexual relationships, or have inappropriate interactions with students
DO NOT discipline or threaten to discipline students
DO NOT access confidential student records
DO NOT transport or allow students to drive your personal vehicle
DO NOT record, take pictures of students for social media purposes: Administrative Procedure
Everyday:
Sign in and sign out in the main office
Dress professionally, review the Professional Disposition page
Bring a state issued ID to enter schools
Bring proof of fingerprints
Bring hard copies of the SafeSchools training
Turn cell phone off; ask family to call the main office in case of emergency
Bring your lunch and snacks; do not share with the classroom students (unknown allergies)
Keep up with your course assignments
Record your attendance sheet and have your pre-service teacher to initial; submit the attendance sheet to your course instructor upon completion of the required number of days
Prior to the first day:
Email the contact person (review the School Sites’ page) and/or pre-service teacher
Request teacher’s hour
Parking policy, especially high school setting
Inquire about the training that includes suspected child abuse and neglect, if applicable
Any questions you may have about the school
Complete the online SchoolSafe training (each school year Sept - June) and print out the certificate (take with you your first day)
Read Course Manual, it is your guideline of what you should or should not do in the classroom
Pre-service teacher may ask you to assist with an activity not covered in your manual. DO what you feel comfortable doing
If there is an activity you would like to do with the class discuss it with the pre-service teacher and come up with a plan together
First Day:
BE ON TIME
TURN OFF CELL PHONE
Have a State issued ID
Have proof of fingerprints available; ask secretary to copy for the office files (keep the original)
Take the online training Certificates
A picture may be taken for the School System’s ID; you must wear at all times while in the school building
Request to see the contact person (School Sites page); if that person is not available, ask for an escort to the pre-service teacher classroom
During a break/planning period go over the course Expectations (EDUC 101 and EDUC 201 only) with pre-service teacher (give to course instructor)
During field experience:
Small groups - you may facilitate small groups
Teach - you must write a lesson plan and have the pre-service teacher's approval before teaching the lesson
Bulletin Board - you may design a bulletin board and share with pre-service teacher. If approved, you may have a chance to put up
Field Trips - you may go, as long as, your other BSU instructors approves
Extended Time - you may stay beyond the required number of days, as long as, the principal and pre-service teacher approves
School wide activity - you may participate in school-wide, as long as, the pre-service teacher approves
Communicate any concerns with Prof Green, Mrs. Swann, and/or course instructor
