After completion of appropriate courses comprising the undergraduate freshman year, the teacher education major is required to formally apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program. All students must schedule a formal interview with the Admission and Retention Committee. Interviews are held each semester. The student's application for admission to Teacher Education is formally approved by the committee and signed by the chair of the Admission and Retention Committee. The committee's decision is final. Students may be referred for additional coursework, counseled into other non-teaching areas, or denied admittance to the program.

New update:
we recently received national accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Based on this accreditation, we are now allowed to make some programmatic changes. These changes fall into three categories for the Praxis CORE:
1. If you maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher from your junior year through graduation, you do not have to take the Praxis CORE. However, if your cumulative GPA drops below a 3.0 GPA, you will be responsible for passing the Praxis CORE to graduate and become certified.
2. If you have less than a 3.0 GPA by your junior year, you must have the qualifying score for Praxis CORE, ACT, or SAT exams.
3. Teacher Education Interviews:
a. If you have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or qualifying Praxis CORE, ACT, or SAT scores, you will be allowed to participate in teacher education interviews.
b. If you do not meet this requirement, you will not be allowed to participate in teacher education interviews until the programmatic requirements are met.
** If you have already registered to take the Praxis CORE, please move forward, and take it at your scheduled time. We will use the results to help prepare you to successfully pass the Praxis II Elementary Education Content exams.**
