TeraCopy is a software program used to move or copy computer files. It is designed to be a faster alternative to the Windows’ file copying function. It allows you to pause and resume file transfer activities and lists errors occurred during copying process.
TeraCopy integrates with Windows Explorer's right-click menu and can be set as the default copy handler. Therefore, you can start it either from the start menu or shortcut at your desktop or when you have already selected the files you want to move:
Using TeraCopy after selecting the files to be moved
1.Select the files you want to copy. Open the right-click menu. Select TeraCopy.
2. Find the target location using the “Copy to” or “Move to” buttons. Click on “Browse” to find the target location and click on “Select folder”
3. Shortcut: Select files you want to copy. Either open the right-click menu and select copy or use the keyboard shortcuts. Open the target location and paste the files either using either the right-click menu or the keyboard shortcuts. A window will pop up asking you if you want to use TeraCopy or Windows Explorer. Choose TeraCopy.
Starting TeraCopy from the start menu or shortcut at desktop:
1. Find TeraCopy at your start menu
2. Find the files you want to move and drag them to the field “Drop files here”
2.a. You can click on the button “More” to see more details about the files that you are about to move. You will see the full file path and size.
III. Monitoring File Transfers
You will be able of monitoring the file transfer progress. The main TeraCopy window will display the percent of files moved and the remaining time and percent. You can click on the button “More” to see details about the file transfer.
Also you can pause the file transfer and resume as needed. When TeraCopy is paused the window will show the message [Paused] and you will also see the Teracopy icon at your task bar menu highlighted in yellow.
When the file transfer is completed successfully, TeraCopy will close itself automatically, unless you have the details option enabled (button "More"). If you have the details options open, you will see the list of transferred files, as well as the time used in the process and the number of files moved. If any errors occurred, you will see a red cross mark instead of the green check mark, as well as the type of error that occurred.
If files have the same names, TeraCopy will be asked whether you want to overwrite them or create a copy.
