SCHOOL DAY OF NON VIOLENCE AND PEACE
On 30th January, the International School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is celebrated, on the anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi (India, 1869-1948), a pacifist leader who defended and promoted non-violence and peaceful resistance against injustice. He was assassinated for defending these ideas.
An education inspired by a culture of non-violence and peace allows schoolchildren to acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills that reinforce their development as critical global citizens committed to their rights and those of others.
The project Escuela Espacio de Paz prepared different activities to celebrate this day and Bilingualism collaborated in some of them.
1. A writing contest was held among our students who had to write a composition about peace with the title: What does peace mean to you? They could participate in three different categories: Spanish, English and French. The winners’ compositions were exhibited in the hall.
2. Students of 1st ESO made bookmarks with messages of peace in Spanish or English.
3. A group of students of 2nd ESO prepared a song whose chorus was in English and our language assistant helped them and played the flamenco cajon with them.
El 30 de enero se celebra el Día Internacional escolar de la Paz y la No Violencia en el aniversario de la muerte de Mahatma Gandhi (India, 1869-1948), un líder pacifista que defendió y promovió la no violencia y la resistencia pacífica frente a la injusticia y que fue asesinado por defender estas ideas.
Una educación inspirada en una cultura de paz y no violencia permite al alumnado adquirir conocimientos, actitudes y destrezas que refuercen su desarrollo como importantes ciudadanos globales comprometidos con sus derechos y los de los demás.
El proyecto Escuela Espacio de Paz preparó diferentes actividades para celebrar este día y Bilingüismo colaboró en algunas de ellas:
1. Se organizó un concurso entre el alumnado que consistía en escribir una redacción bajo el título: ¿Qué significa la paz para ti? Podían participar en tres categorías distintas: castellano, inglés y francés. Las redacciones de los ganadores se expusieron en la entrada.
2. Alumnado de 1º de ESO hizo marcapáginas con mensajes de paz en castellano o inglés.
3. Se preparó una canción con alumnado de 2º de E.S.O. cuyo estribillo era en inglés y contaron con la colaboración de nuestro auxiliar de conversación, que les acompañó tocando el cajón flamenco.
