Defibrillator

Notes from the training on the 20th February

The code for the defibrillator is 0999 [followed by a tick]

Phone 112 on your mobile

or

999

112 will look across all networks to find an emergency signal.

In any event try and use a hands free phone so that you can receive instructions.

Phone the Bull and Heifer and get someone to bring the defibrillator to you.

This will save you time

Start chest compression as soon as you can

Before the defibrillator arrives

Arms straight and the rhythm you want is:

  • Nelly the elephant
  • Staying alive
  • Little fish

Attach the defibrillator pads as shown in the picture

Listen to and follow the instructions, especially keeping clear.

Chest compression is more important than 'the kiss of life'

The defibrillator will tell you to give the patient a couple of breaths

We were advised that unless you have been trained do not do the breatha

Chest compression is very tiring if you have someone there to help then share the workload - 2 minutes each
