Short mat bowling
Bettws SMB club is 30 years old this year, we typically have between 20 and 25 members, who bowl on the short mats - with those irritating blocks of wood in the way - on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 until 10:00 in the village hall. As well as our in-house singles and doubles competitions and ‘Carol Reynolds’ men’s and ladies’ trophies we currently bowl as a team in the “Tregynon and District SMB League – along with six other local clubs. We have won this league and come second a couple of times in recent seasons – last season we were emphatically last despite having winners in the league triples and fours competitions, and runners up in the singles, triples and fours; that is sport for you! A clear demonstration that we play for the enjoyment of bowling well in good company – and winning is often an elusive bonus. We are often joined by non-members for our annual presentation evening – testimony to the welcoming social aspect of the club.
