Dr. Jane Marie Heffernan

Jane Heffernan is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University as well as a Tier 2 York Research Chair in Multi-Scale Quantitative Methods for Evidence-Based Health Policy. She is also the Director of the Centre for Disease Modelling and is on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society. She has also won the CAIMS-PIMS Early Career Award and has been recognized as a research leader. She has also received the Governor Generals Gold Medal, NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship (Warwick, UK), NSERC University Faculty Award, MRI Ontario Early Researcher Award, and the Petro-Canada Young Innovators Award. Her research centers on understanding the spread and persistence of infectious diseases and her lab, Modelling Infection and Immunity Lab, focuses on the development of new biologically motivated models of infectious diseases to describe pathogen dynamics in host and in populations of hosts.
