Medicaid Alternative Pathways (MAPs) is a government program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that helps them gain skills for independent living, work, and community engagement to achieve their goals. Program Information
Participants will have three years of services and funding in the MAPs program.
Each year, participants choose 3-5 milestones to work on through a person-centered approach to identify what resources are important to them.
Examples include: home safety, personal hygiene, health management, financial management, pre employment, employment innovation, career development, independent travel, community relationship, community activities
These milestones translate into the services and provider agencies they will be referred to in order to meet these goals.
These services consist of community navigator, employment innovation, independence coaching, peer mentoring, and enabling technology

Medicaid Alternative Pathways (MAPs) may be a good fit for you if:
You want to increase your independence at home, at work, and in the community
You do not have other long term supports or state funding for services
You are looking for a short term service that can set them up for long term success
To qualify for the MAPs program, you have to be:
At least a sophomore in high school or have finished high school
Have a documented intellectual or developmental disability
A Tennessee resident
An Individuals who want to increase their independence at home, at work, and in the community
Must not be enrolled in long term supports such as Katie Beckett Program, ECF CHOICES, CHOICES, or 1915(c) Waivers
Once an application is submitted, staff will reach out for you to provide documentation of your documented disability and begin the next steps of the enrollment process.
Applications are accepted year round.
MAPs has the capacity to service 1250 participants.
There is no cost for the MAPs program.
Participants receive $20,000 per year to distribute to services that will help them reach their milestones and goals.
