Disability Services Information
Yes, Belmont University has an Office of Accessibility Services with staff who can help provide accommodations to students who need support in their classes along with providing housing and dining accommodations.
Disability services provides accommodations such as extra time and reduced distractions for exams, note taking software, adaptive technology, etc.
The Office of Accessibility Services will work individually with each student to make sure they are receiving the appropriate accommodations.
Students can submit past 504, IEP, or accommodation forms to help determine appropriate accommodations for college.
Staff will coordinate with each student to ensure their needs are met with the accommodation services they receive.
Once students start their first semester, they will have an orientation with a staff member to determine responsibilities and understand how the accommodation process works. They also can help provide resources for how to have conversations with their professors about accommodations.
*It is recommended that students accept all accommodations that they might need because they are not required to use them in every class.
If a student begins taking a class and realizes that they are needing more accommodations, they are always welcome to discuss this with the staff member they had for their orientation meeting.
At the beginning of each semester, students set up a meeting with their professors to discuss their accommodations and have them sign the letter of accommodation.
It is important to note that students are responsible for reminding professors throughout the semester of their needed accommodations.
The Office of Accessibility Services ensures that professors are very understanding of students needing accommodation services.
Since many students at Belmont receive these services, professors are familiar with how accommodations work for their classes.
It is up to the student to communicate with the professor to remind them of their accommodations before tests, etc. in case their professor has forgotten who is supposed to receive accommodations.

You will be expected to provide a list of your diagnoses and how they pose a barrier to the traditional academic process and why accommodations are necessary.
After being accepted, you will be asked to upload your documentation.
The team will review this and send you a letter of eligibility, or they will ask you follow up questions to determine your eligibility.
Students are required to provide documentation from a medical provider with the disability documented (psychoeducational evaluation, neuropsychological evaluation, etc.)
This documentation must be from within the last 3 years prior to attending Belmont.
Students can also submit past 504 plans, IEPs, and other accommodation forms but they will also need to provide official documentation from a physician.
The Office of Accessibility recommends that sooner is better to apply for accommodations so that everything can be finalized by the start of the school year.
