Our Place is an affordable and supportive housing option for adults with and without developmental disabilities in Nashville, TN. This program gives the residents opportunities to gain independence, time management skills, and other life skills. Program Information
This is a residential program with 50% of the individuals having disabilities ("friends") and 50% of the individuals without disabilities ("companions") living in communities varying from studio apartments to shared community housing.
The residents have opportunities to live on their own, have their own space, prepare their own meals, while also holding a job or volunteer opportunity throughout the day.
Our Place hosts weekly community dinners for the residents along with life skills courses teaching on topics such as finances, time management, social skills, etc.
Our Place helps to set up and train their residents on how to use WeGo Access to help them with independence throughout the day. Residents are able to use this service to get to work, go to the grocery store, go out with friends, etc.
If a resident does not have a job or volunteer opportunity prior to moving into housing with Our Place, they can be referred to job coaches and job agencies to help them find a job opportunities. Residential service providers can also help with faciliating the job/volunteer search for Our Place residents.
Our Place has multiple housing locations in the downtown Nashville area.
Residents are in charge of obtaining and preparing their own food while at Our Place aside from their community dinner each week.

To qualify for Our Place, you have to be:
At least 21 years old (can apply and be placed on the waitlist prior to being 21 years old)
For neurodiverse applicants, you must have a documented developmental disability (Neurotypical candidates may also apply to live in this housing)
Must have a job, volunteer opportunity, day program, college program, etc. that gives you something to do during the day
Have a certain level of independence (hygiene, preparing your own meals, toileting)
Potential residents will be evaluated on the skills listed, and residents can have differing abilities on each of these skills. The evaluation will help candidates know what they can work on before moving into this housing.

Initial Interview: Staff at Our Place will set up an interview with the potential candidate and a family member/support system.
Waitlist candidates will be asked to pay the waitlist fee at this time.
You will be alerted once space has opened up in one of the housing units.
There is an extensive waitlist, so it could be a couple years before a candidate gets placed in housing. It also could be sooner depending on how many they are accepting and if others on the waitlist are ready to move in.
Since a potential resident will be placed on the waitlist prior to submitting and application, there is a $150 yearly fee to stay on the waitlist, but no specific application fee.
The waitlist fee is prorated based on the calendar year depending on when the applicant joins the waitlist.
Once on the waitlist, future residents are able to attend all of the events put on by Our Place. This can include weekly life skills classes, zoom events, in-person events, and parents' groups.
Housing options can vary from $325 to $700 depending on the location.
An additional $95 per month residence fee is also required for wifi and utilities.
No, there are not any scholarship funds set up to help residents.
