Yeadon Aviation

Yeadon Aviation Ltd was established in 1953 by a group of local businessmen initially to maintain aircraft for the East Riding Flying Club based at Bridlington Aerodrome. The company subsequently became responsible for the Aero club aircraft based at Yeadon Aerodrome (now Leeds and Bradford Airport) where they would also take over the management of the airport operations. A Dragon Rapide was acquired in June 1954 primarily to operate a scheduled passenger service in the summer months between Leeds and the Isle of Man. The service began in May 1955, but ceased in 1958 when the company closed down. The Yorkshire Light Aircraft company evolved a year later solely for light aircraft maintenance.

Yellow Air Taxi Company

Registered as an air transport operator on 17 January 1948, the Yellow Air Taxi Company Ltd was established at Elmdon Airport, Birmingham, as a subsidiary of the Yellow Taxi Company (Midland) Ltd. The Yellow Air Taxi Company began charter operations utilising a Percival Q.6 and an Auster Autocrat, and were used for pleasure flying, ad-hoc charter flights and flying training. The Q6 only operated for a short while and was replaced by a Dragon Rapide in June 1948. A Proctor would subsequently be added to the fleet.

Charter operations continued until 1953 when their aircraft fleet was sold.

Yellow Bird Air Taxis

Yellow Bird Air Taxis Ltd was established at Blackbushe Airport in October 1971, and commenced air taxi and executive charter operations in the same month with a Cessna 310. The company provided a variety of services including air taxi work, pleasure flying, flying training and aerial photography.

By the end of summer 1974 the company had ceased trading and their aircraft fleet sold on.

Yeoward

Yeoward Line Aviation Ltd. was the aviation subsidiary of Yeoward Brothers Ltd., a firm of Liverpool shipping agents with interests in Spain and the Canary Islands. Their aircraft were mainly used for executive flights in connection with Yeoward Brothers shipping business, but charter flightswere also operated. While initially established at Liverpool (Speke) Airport, operations shifted primarily to Hawarden / Chester Airport around 1974. Records indicate the firm also occasionally operated flights out of Wrexham / Borras.

Yeowards active presence as a prominent passenger shuttle handler significantly declined after 1977, after which its executive and charter services slowed down until the company closed the aviation wing entirely in 1982.

Yorkshire Aeroplane Club

The Yorkshire Aeroplane Club Ltd. was one of the UK's earliest flying clubs with its origins dating back to 1909. The club was established at Sherburn-in-Elmet Aerodrome on 10 January 1926 and flying training operations commenced on 26 January 26. The club relocated to Yeadon, a new air airport, in 1931 and flying continued until the outbreak of World War 2 in 1939. Having remained dormant during the war, the Yorkshire Aeroplane Club returned to Sherburn-in-Elmet Aerodrome on 27 April 1946. A converted farmhouse was used as a clubhouse, and hangars and workshops were built nearby. Flying training operations began with a fleet of Austers, plus the club carried out pleasure flying and ad-hoc charter flying using the Austers, Proctors, a Percival Q.6 and Dragon Rapide.

Operations continued for the most part unchanged for several years, but the mid-1950s brought a fall in the club membership and an increase in costs. The charter aircraft were gradually sold off, and in March 1958 the club closed altogether. The club, did however, resume flying operations at Yeadon Aerodrome in January 1959 under the name Yorkshire Flying Services.

Yorkshire European Airways

Yorkshire European Airways was a regional airline operating scheduled flights out of Leeds Bradford Airport to Aberdeen, Belfast and Southampton, using two leased Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante aircraft
Operations commenced in Summer 1992, but the airline's leased aircraft were subsequently impounded due to unpaid fees.
29/11/1993: It was established that the Company could not continue because of its liabilities, and would be voluntarily wound up.
17/12/1993: Liquidators appointed
