Owners Abroad (Wholesale) Ltd was established following the merger of Continental Air Brokers and Economy World Travel. The company would grow into one of the United Kingdom's leading tour operators.

The business became Owners Abroad Group plc, reflecting its expansion into an integrated travel group operating holidays, tour operations and aviation services.
11 April 1987
Air 2000 commenced operations as the in-house airline of Owners Abroad, initially operating Boeing 757-200 aircraft on inclusive-tour charter flights from the UK to European holiday destinations.
19 September 1994
Owners Abroad Group plc officially changed its name to First Choice Holidays plc, marking the first legal use of the First Choice name. The airline, however, continued to operate as Air 2000.
1998
Air 2000 expanded following the integration of aircraft and operations from Leisure International Airways, strengthening its position as one of Britain's largest independent charter airlines.
October 2003
First Choice Holidays announced that Air 2000 would be rebranded as First Choice Airways, aligning the airline's identity with the parent company's well-established holiday brand.
28 March 2004
Air 2000 officially became First Choice Airways. The airline retained the same operating company, Air Operator Certificate, fleet and route network, with only the corporate identity changing.
June 2007
The merger of First Choice Holidays plc and the tourism division of TUI AG created TUI Travel PLC, bringing First Choice Airways and Thomsonfly under common ownership.
1 November 2008
First Choice Airways merged with Thomsonfly to form Thomson Airways, ending the First Choice Airways brand.
