Palmair European was the successor to Palmair Flightline and continued as the airline arm of Bath Travel. Operating exclusively from Bournemouth Airport, it offered both inclusive-tour charter flights and scheduled services to popular European holiday destinations.
Unlike many leisure airlines, Palmair consistently achieved exceptionally high customer satisfaction ratings and regularly featured among the UK's best-rated airlines. Palmair Flightline was an airline established by R.E. Bath Travel Service (Palmair) Ltd, one of the UK's oldest independent travel companies. Based at Bournemouth Airport, it commenced operations in 1993, operating its own aircraft for the first time after decades of chartering capacity from other airlines.
Initially operating a single British Aerospace BAe 146-300, Palmair Flightline provided inclusive-tour charter flights and later scheduled services from Bournemouth to destinations across Europe. Peregrine Air Services Limited was a notable Scottish regional charter airline and executive aviation company and also became the very first UK operator of the BAe Jetstream 31 turboprop. Timeline
11/08/1969: Peregrine Air Services was established but remained a small operator for many years. The company’s major expansion came much later, when it became involved in the restructuring of Scotland’s commuter‑airline sector.
The key turning point was the collapse of Air Ecosse, another major Scottish commuter carrier. In November 1988 Peregrine Air Services acquired the remaining assets of Air Ecosse.
07/03/1989: Peregrine merged those assets alongside another small carrier (Malinair) to establish a new dedicated scheduled airline named Aberdeen Airways.
Following the restructuring and pivot toward the scheduled carrier market, the original corporate identity of Peregrine Air Services officially ceased operations in January 1990.

Portsmouth Aviation was the renaming of Portsmouth, Southsea & Isle of Wight Aviation Ltd (PSIOWA) in February 1943 (see next airline entry). Portsmouth Aviation resumed charter flying with a Dragon Rapide at Portsmouth Airport in April 1946, and operated numerous charter flights carrying holidaymakers to the Channel Islands. Further aircraft were acquired and charter flights to the Continent were started. Charter flying continued throughout the winter months and the summer of 1947. However, by the end of the season, the company had started to run down its charter division and all charter work had ceased by the spring of 1948.

Portsmouth Aviation did, however, continue in operations as an approved design organisation for complete aircraft and aircraft components. Other work undertaken, included sub-contract design, the construction of scale models for scale flight testing and wind-tunnel work. Activities also included prototype development work, that included the construction and testing of a twin-engined 6 seater light aircraft known as the Portsmouth Aerocar (G-AGTG). The engineering company remains in business to this day.

Portsmouth, Southsea & Isle of Wight Aviation Ltd (PSIOWA) was a pioneering regional airline that operated during the 1930s and specialised in passenger transport between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. Established as Inland Flying Services in 1928, then Wight Aviation in 1930, the company’s core business was its Spithead Air Ferry, connecting Portsmouth with Ryde offering a faster alternative to conventional sea transport across the Solent. Operations expanded from 1932 to include scheduled services to other south-coast destinations, sightseeing flights, charter work and connections with wider transport networks. PSIOWA also employed aviator Amy Johnson during the late 1930s who flew the Solent flights and target flying for anti-aircraft training.

The outbreak of the Second World War brought PSIOWA's scheduled civilian services to an end in September 1939. The company resumed charter work after the war, but concentration leans more towards aircraft repair and engineering work. In February 1943 the company adopts the name Portsmouth Aviation and transitions in 1947 from airline operations into aircraft design, manufacturing and engineering, a development that established the foundation for its current industrial business.
