Promotions in the Coalition occur in a number of ways. This page will go over promotion systems that apply to XR and LR players.
The Auxiliary Rank (XR) exists as a "trial version" of a faction, allowing any player to participate in a faction without an application at the cost of increased restrictions, low roleplay authority, and other small differences.
By performing well in roleplay as an XR character, an XR player may be promoted to the rank of LR without an application. The player must receive several vouches from staff members that they are deserving of this benefit.
To be promoted from XR → LR, you must either complete an application or perform well enough in roleplay that you receive a "vouch" from three staff members ranked MR (Sergeants, Liaisons, etc.) or above. To receive staff vouches, show good roleplay capability, take initiative during hosts and startups, and be an active player.
NOTES:
In normal circumstances, an XR player should simply write a suitable application and character sheet. Being promoted via staff vouches is an alternative, but should not be seen as the only option for an LR promotion.
XR characters (Footmen, Understudies, Workmen, etc.) cannot earn promotion points.
XR characters are unable to earn stamps, grants, or most medals (unless the player is OOCly an LR).
Staff vouches are not tied to a specific character, they are tied to a player and not a logged point or currency.
Low Rank+ (LR+) promotions are ICly earned point-based promotions that, for the most part, are tied to specific characters rather than individual players. Promotion points are the only existing method of receiving a promotion to any of the LR+ ranks and are usually obtained through hosts, startup tasks, and receiving medals.
PROMOTION POINTS
Promotion points are a progression system used only to progress through the LR+ ranks. They are a simple reward system that is usually rewarded for participation, good IC performance, good roleplay, and overall, any in-game feat that a staff member deems worthy of points. Points are usually rewarded in a range of 1-3 per feat.
Promotion points can be obtained via any of the following methods:
Participating in a host
Participating in a startup task
Excellent host performance
Excellent roleplay (in or out of hosts)
Completing an objective with evidence
Receiving an IC medal from a staff member
LOW RANK 2
Lance Serviceman & Senior Agent
Low Rank 2 (abbreviated as LR2 or LR2+ if referring to "Low Rank 2 or above") is the first rank in the chain of LR ranks that can be obtained through points. It unlocks certain new weapons and attachments, certain rank-based slots in scheduled hosts, and the ability to create small, temporary and non-permanent outposts.
Lance Serviceman is the name of the LR2 rank within the Gold Leaf Army. These servicemen are slightly more respected than regular servicemen as they likely display more medals and have survived more battles, but they hold no added authority. They are entrusted with the ability to construct and lead outposts—commonly scouting camps, hunting camps and small naval vessels—but these outposts must remain non-permanent.
Senior Agent is the name of the LR2 rank within the government. These agents hold seniority over other agents, and while they might not hold much added respect due to the mundanity of their daily work lives, have shown prowess in their abilities to work in the government. Like Lance Servicemen, they are entrusted with the ability to construct and lead outposts, however these outposts usually remain non-combative in the form of a trading hub, aid station, propaganda station, garage or vehicle depot, or other kinds of resourceful outpost pertaining to the agent's role. These outposts must also remain non-permanent. While all agents are equipped with some kind of non-lethal weapon, Senior Agents enjoy access to a personal taser and small supply of taser cartridges from the Logistics Office, enabling them to shut down confrontations in a matter of seconds.
It should be noted that the LR2+ rank does not transfer between characters and does not grant any sort of IC authority over other characters. While your character might have further seniority and experience as a Lance Serviceman or Senior Agent, these ranks bear no authority beyond the charisma of your own character.
LR2 can be obtained by receiving 12 promotion points.
If an LR2 character is killed permanently, their points and rank are lost.
LOW RANK 3
Master Serviceman & Special Agent
Low Rank 3 (abbreviated as LR3 or LR3+ if referring to "Low Rank 3 or above") is the second rank in the chain of LR ranks that can be obtained through points. Like its predecessor, it unlocks certain new weapons and attachments, the ability to request certain Special Storage Catalogue items (those that are marked as LR3+ self-awardable), and certain rank-based slots in scheduled hosts, but has no new outpost-related benefits.
Master Serviceman is the name of the LR3 rank within the Gold Leaf Army. These servicemen receive access to many new weapons in their duties, as well as limited access to request certain items from the Special Storage Catalogue for use in the field. They do not gain any sort of loosened outpost restrictions over Lance Servicemen.
Special Agent is the name of the LR3 rank within the government. They receive the same added benefits over Senior Agents as a Master Serviceman does over Lance Servicemen with no notable differences.
LR3 can be obtained by reaching 12 more promotion points as an LR2 (24 points total).
If an LR3 character is killed permanently, their points and rank are lost.
LR-HOSTING
Corporal & Assistant-Liaison
LR-Hosting (abbreviated as LR-H) is the final rank in the chain of LR ranks that can be obtained through points or, alternatively, staff recognition. Unlike its two predecessors, LR-H does not unlock any new weapons or attachments, but instead unlocks the ability to become a host, writer and planner of Coalition arcs and hosts.
LR-H is a volunteer hosting rank and, unlike LR2 and LR3, is an IC/OOC rank that unlocks access to several Discord channels and forums regarding hosts and arcs. As a volunteer hosting rank, it exists as the primary hosts of Coalition events and startups, expecting players to regularly plan events for the faction's community.
Corporal is the name of the LR-H rank within the Gold Leaf Army. Unlike Lance and Master Servicemen, these servicemen enjoy limited authority over those of lower rank. They fall into the gap before Registrar, making them above other servicemen but still under the control of the Registrar Corps, Sergeants and all ranks above. Per the limits to their authority, Corporals cannot employ direct, official punishments against their subordinates. They instead act like snitches or lapdogs to the ranks above them, writing up their lessers to be officially punished by a Registrar or Sergeant rather than dishing out any form of punishment themselves.
Assistant-Liaison is the name of the LR-H rank within the government. Like Corporals, Assistant-Liaisons enjoy limited authority over agents of lower rank and fall into the authority gap before Registrar, but rather than reporting to Sergeants, Assistant-Liaisons are often instead assigned to a specific Liaison who they assist in their day-to-day work similarly to an Understudy. This assigned Liaison is typically who they'll report their write-ups to, though they may request this from any Registrar, Liaison or above rank in the government.
LR-H can be obtained by reaching 12 more promotion points as an LR3 (36 points total).
Once the 36 point total has been reached, a staff vote will occur to decide the promotion. Prospective LR-H should be ready and willing to pitch host ideas that will be at first assisted in hosting by a staff member, as it is the main purpose of the rank.
If an LR-H's character is killed permanently, their points are lost but their OOC rank remains.
LR-H can also be obtained through staff recognition as an alternative method to promotion points. While promotion points are the main, intended method, a promotion straight to LR-H can be achieved by standing out in the faction community as a helpful, creative and quality roleplayer. A staff vote for a direct LR-H promotion may occur when a member of staff recognises a standout player for displaying these qualities.
