Marfisa was born in 1004 AD, and was an apprentice during the Schism War. Her master was Donnchad Dubh, an Hibernian Tremere magus and necromancer with a vision: establishing a Hermetic realm on the Isle of Man. She was trained as a scout, with an emphasis in Imaginem. She was discovered to have the Iron Gift, which is to say that the negative effects of her Gift are especially strong on any creature associated with the Infernal realm—this includes not just demons, but also infernalists and animals tainted by the Infernal. This led to her secondary training in Vim, so that she could defend herself from the demonic hostility she inevitably draws. Donnchad led his filia and three other young magi to Man in 1031, but an attack by magi of Stonehenge devastated the covenant. Donnchad perished and Marfisa was turned into a pillar of salt. The survivors fled back to Hibernia.
Two hundred years later, in 1221, young magi from several Houses settled on Man and found Marfisa's salt statue and Donnchad's tomb, and founded a covenant on the site. While exploring a regio they discovered the ghost of a Hermetic magus who showed them a way to reverse Marfisa's transformation. They returned her to life, and she soon returned to Coeris for debriefing. Eventually she was assigned to the covenant who rescued her.
Personally, Marfisa is humble and keeps to herself, and she has many interests both magical and mundane; its very hard for her to focus on one area of study for more than a few months. Once restored to life, she realized she was two centuries behind, and she reads voraciously to learn everything she has missed in Europe and the Order. Twice a year, on the anniversary of her transformation and the anniversary of her recovery, she cries two tears: one is Muto vis and the other is Terram vis. Because Marfisa was alive during the Schism War, and knows things the Order has decided to keep secret, House Guernicus is suspicious of her; some Quaesitores are arguing that she should submit to memory-wiping spells, and others are contemplating Wizard’s War. Her house assigned her to Cashtel Lajer partially to co-opt the young magi there into protecting Marfisa from House Guernicus.
