Kate was orphaned at an early age and grew up on the streets of Lisbon. But at 14 she drew the attention of a man twice her age, a blacksmith in need of a wife and an assistant. He took her in and she, glad for a roof over her head and food to eat, resolved to make the best of the situation.
But Kate's husband was lazy and envious of her natural talent. He made her do the work, and then claimed credit for it. Kate let this go for a time, but her passionate nature took hold one night and she clubbed her husband to death with a mallet.
Afraid lest her crime be discovered, Kate took refuge in the retinue of a Hermetic maga on their way out of Iberia. Now Kate is the blacksmith at Castrum Viribus, producing tools, wire, horseshoes, and other essentials for the covenant. Characters sensitive to such things (Second Sight, Sense Holiness & Unholiness) percieve Kate's hands to be covered in blood. She is unaware of this, and also of her supernatural talent for making magical horseshoes.
Kate lives on the top floor of a two-story wooden structure outside the covenant's earthen walls. She spent the spring of 1221 setting up her workshop.
The workshop has an Innovation Score of 0 and a Materials Score of 0. Kate can generate 24 Labor Points a season, earning 2 XP exposure whenever she does so. Ordinarily, she would need to spend 36 Labor Points to maintain her standard of living, but because she is supported by the covenant, she can put any Labor Points generated towards Innovation or Materials.
Kate's Workshop Total is currently 8, enough for her to produce Standard Items. Note the Craft Level for goods she creates is raised by 1 due to the influence of a Magic aura. Blacksmith can also be used as Weaponsmith with a -1 penalty, provided the weapons are made out of metal (example: swords).
