Sir Alec commands the grogs as Turb Captain; Alvaro is his sergeant. The grogs have all trained to work together as a trained group.
These grogs have personal loyalty to one of the magi, and are often called upon to act as shield grogs. They are all trained to fight together in a trained group, if necessary.
- Alvaro Colodro, an Almogavar mercenary working for Tereysa as a shield grog. Alvaro was instrumental in the hunt for the Black Boar of the Bog. He has his own page.
- Andromache, a Black Cloak of House Tremere. Andromache is Marfisa's personal shield grog.
- Bernat, a Tough Guy from Barcelona, shield grog to Ilius: A young man of Barcelona whom Ilius befriended when he patched Bernat's only good tunic before a big date. Bernat is big, and handy with an axe. His stats are those of the Tough Guy (ArM5 22).
- Cleis, a Hunter from Greece: Cleis has the stats for a Hunter (ArM5 21). She is only 20 years old and does not yet speak Latin or Gaelic, so is very isolated on Man.
- Orban, a soldier from the covenant of Seuthopolis in Hungary, Orban is shield grog to Gergo; he was mortally wounded in battle with Infernalists in Lisbon, but recovered with help from a barber-surgeon in Castletown and Thomlyn's alchemical powders. Orban has the stats for a Standard Soldier on page 22 of the Ars Magica rule book, and speaks fluent Latin, but has the Fragile Constitution flaw as a consequence of his serious injury.
- Thorvald the Dane is a mercenary the covenant while Orban was incapacited. Thorvald is not averse to working with wizards (he has some experience with rune wizards back home), but he's not sure about this job. He has his own page.
The covenant employs 24 men as professional soldiers.
- The Silver Dragons is a company of 12 Welsh Almogavar mercenaries, led by an Almogaten and assisted by Alvaro Colodro, Tereysa's shield grog. The Silver Dragons were hired in late 1220 from the Red Wyverns in Stonehenge, at the covenant of Voluntas. They work for £1 per soldier per year, plus a flat fee of 3 pawns of vis annually. Notably, the Silver Dragons are familiar with the ways of magi and all know a little Latin. They have their own page.
- Sir Alec's Personal Guard: Alec employs 4 spars of Gallowglass as his retinue. Each spar is led by a seasoned gallowglass warrior, assisted by a young warrior in training and a servant boy. Alec pays each spar £5 a year from his personal treasury; the gallowglass are not supported by the covenant. The gallowglass are not familiar with the ways of magi and generally do not trust them; they do not speak Latin, and are loyal to Sir Alec (so long as he pays them). They have their own page.
