The Isle is about 30 miles long and lies in the Irish Sea, with Ireland to the west, Scotland to the north, and Britain to the east and south. Unique in the Order of Hermes, the Isle is not a part of any of the three tribunals that surround it. Rich in resources, and home to many threats and dangers including several native dragons, the Isle was fought over by magi from Hibernia, Stonehenge, and the Loch Leglean tribunals. Several covenants were founded there, but all failed.
Finally, an emergency tribunal was held at the covenant of Vigil in Hibernia, in 1145. The Partitio Monaviae was founded: an agreement that the Isle would belong to no tribunal until a covenant could be founded on it that lasted for the length of a Grand Tribunal (33 years). After that time, the covenant could choose which tribunal it belonged to. The last covenant to try was Servus Maris in 1160; it was destroyed within six months by a dragon despite sponsorship from Stonehenge.
Until a covenant ends the Partitio Monaviae, the isle is not subject to any Peripheral Code. Its vis and other magical resources cannot be officially claimed by a covenant from off the Isle.
