Directory Statistics

  • Since September 2019, a sing up form was circulated for the Directory of Women Working in Security and Defense in Latin America and the Caribbean. At the end of the year we have registered 342 women registered from throughout the region.
  • The majority of participants are concentrated in South America (74%). The countries with the most participation are Argentina (28%), Colombia (19%) and Mexico (12%)
  • We hope to expand the participation of expert women in the field in all of the countries of Central America and the Caribbean.
  • In South America we eagerly await the participation of more women from Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
  • Currently, there are women from other countries like Spain, Italy, Germany and Australia who work across the Americas. All women are welcome to join on our network!
  • Participants have concentration experience on three main areas: violence and crime prevention, monitoring and evaluation of security policies and organized crime. These three themes represent 53% of the responses.
  • 75% of security specialist women enrolled on the network, are engaged in academic research, think tanks or public policies on the government.
  • A high level of education is evident among the security specialists. 49% have a complete or on going master´s degree and 30% have completed a PhD or are in progress.
  • 80% of the registered women have participated in some kind of publication a publication. Among their variety of contributions are books, articles, presentations and thesis.
  • 43% of the participants have more than 10 years of experience in this sector. Clearly we count on the participation of women that have consolidated careers in security matters.
  • On the other hand, we have 17% of women that are in the beginning their professional career.
  • 25% of women specialist women in security presently belong to another women’s network.
