December 1, 2021. Foster City Girl Scouts were thrilled to finish their holiday card contributions to VA-Menlo Park patients. The Brownies contributed cards in 2019 but couldn't in 2020 due to the pandemic. This December was one of the rare occasions the troop was able to meet together--awaiting the youngsters to get vaccinated.

November 2021. College Park Girl Scouts devoted their afternoon to completing their charitable project of donating towards gift bags to VA-Menlo Park veteran patients. Scouts donated the bags, toiletries, notebooks, and 100+ handmade holiday cards. This is the third year Troop 61740 collaborated with the Auxiliary. D26 will complete the bags with a blanket, puzzles, and handmade sets of mittens/scarf/hat.

Unit 105 Redwood City strives to involve youth in learning about the sacrifices, service and dedication of our veterans. Last year, members of the troop assisted in Wreaths Across America; they shared how moved they were to see all the headstones and reflected on how each headstone represented the life of a veteran.

Pacifica Unit & Post 238 Remember our Military Families

November 7, 2021. Unit 238 has been supporting the Colma Veterans Village (CVV) for a few years now. In addition, U585 donated a $500 gift card and U82 delivered paper products directly. One of the District's main goals is facilitating Units supporting each other's programs while developing kinship and camaraderie.

Post 238 will dedicate a memorial specifically for Pacifica natives who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving their country. On Veterans Day, a private morning ceremony for family members of the fallen will be held and a public ceremony in the afternoon.

District 26 Donates Robotic Therapy Dogs

March 2021. VA-Menlo Park patients with acute memory loss were negatively affected, like all of us, by the lack of visitors due to the pandemic. At the suggestion of staff, D26 donated four robotic dogs for dementia patients to interact with. Experience has shown the robotic pets to be calming for patients and helpful in diminishing agitation and anxiety  (see video). Patients are thrilled with their new pets.

FROM THE VA STAFF:

"We recently requested to Voluntary Services that our program was in need of Joy for All Companion Pets. In research studies it's been shown that robotic pets can help those in advance dementia with reducing anxiety, depression, irritability, and encourage interaction. Since this pandemic, we were unable to have family members and pets come in for visitations. We hope that the recipients of these pets will find comfort and happiness in their new friend.

"Thank you for your kind and generous donation of Joy for All Companion Pets for our veterans...Without support from people like you we could not maintain the high quality of care given to our veterans."
