It's a Wrap at 'Toys for Vets'

December was the busiest season for the Auxiliary--buying VA patient Wish List gifts, delivering gifts & desserts at the annual VA holiday party, and donating toiletries to veterans throughout the County. Our last 2018 event was spending the morning wrapping 'Toys for Vets' gifts donated by Menlo Park Fire Department and Dollar Store.

San Mateo Community Helps Veterans & Camp Fire Survivors

December 1, 2018. The Auxiliary delivered their veterans' wish list gifts on Dec 8 during the VA Menlo Park holiday celebration. Recipients of the 5000+ toiletry items: short- and long-term VA Menlo Park patients, College of San Mateo's Veterans Resource Opportunity Center, VA's Defenders Lodge, VA's Fisher House, VA Palo Alto Hospital patients, Blue Star Moms (shipping to active-duty soldiers), and survivors of the Butte County Camp Fire (via the Elks & local Lions Club).

Independence Day 2018: District 26 Serves Lunch at the VA Palo Alto

July 4, 2018. Unit 82 Auxiliary ladies were happy to help serve hotdogs, watermelon, chips, and beans to Menlo Park VA veteran, family member, and staff. Though a bit windy, that didn't dampen our efforts to organize lunch with a smile and give us an opportunity to thank our veterans for their service!! All the food and fixings were donated by District 26 (five peninsula locations) and cooked by Post 82 Legionnaires.

June 2018. The Auxiliary facilitated the synergistic three-way partnership of the Elks Lodge, the Auxiliary and CSM's Veterans Resource and Opportunity Center--providing our local veterans with snacks and refreshments, toiletries, school supplies and educational opportunities. Elks additionally donated a much needed whiteboard for VROC's study area.

CityFest Volunteers and Auxiliary Publicity

June 2018. Members sold CityFest ride tickets in support of the Foster City Chamber of Commerce's annual street fair. It was a wonderful opportunity to publicize the work of the Auxiliary as well with our display poster, Girls State album, and poppy, flag & stars giveways to donors. 8.18

District 26 Hosts California Girls State Delegates

The Auxiliary sponsors this annual leadership program for high-achieving Juniors to gain greater appreciation of citizenship, civil service, and the importance of being an active contributor to her community. Delegates gain lifelong networking skills, positive encouragement, appreciation of risk-taking, friendships, and fond memories.

April 22, 2018. Five Units of D26 entertained the 2018 Girls State Delegates and their families at our annual Girls State Tea. Sponsored by the Auxiliary, Girls State is a nationally renown leadership and citizenry week-long summer camp. Girls are required to write legislation, hold campaigns, create a mock government, and collaborate with fellow delegates. Participating high schools select only one outstanding junior as their representative at the Southern California convention of 540 delegates. Photo by K. Toye

Operation Eagle Visit - 50th Anniversary Parade

March 24, 2018. Auxiliary ladies were pleased and proud to march alongside Post 82 Legionnaires in downtown San Mateo celebrating the 50th anniversary of an historic 1968 parade. Back then the city took the courageous step in honoring returning Vietnam veterans with a parade during a tumultuous political climate. Parade photo provided by City of San Mateo.
