 District officers facilitate and coordinate Unit knowledge-sharing and best practices. The District serves as a conduit of information from the Department (state-level) to Units regarding events, obligations, news and guidelines. Officer terms follow the fiscal year, July 1 to June 30.

ALL PUBLIC EVENTS ARE LISTED ON DISTRICT 26 CALENDAR

UNIT 82, 130 SOUTH BLVD., SAN MATEO

Jan/Dec: Plans in the works for a movie night in February.

Nov: Recruited nine new members. 11/10 Early Bird prime rib dinner, $40/guests. 

Sep: President Stacy working on a U82 website. Bingo night continues. 9/23 Hot Summer Nights & Car Show. Continuing Luella Dillings Scholarship for CAGS Citizens. 

Mar: 3/17 St. Patrick’s Day party fundraiser, $10 @ 6pm: corned beef sandwiches, dancing. 3/18 Colma Veterans Village monthly dropoff. CVV made six personalized t-shirts for U82 members. CAGS: SM & Hillsdale participating.

Jan: San Mateo. Bingo games benefit Colma Veterans Village; monthly clothing and supplies dropoffs are for CVV.

UNIT 105, 651 EL CAMINO REAL, REDWOOD CITY

Dec: Delivered D26's holiday gifts to the VA on 12/10 and served desserts. 12/16 participated in Wreaths Across America at Golden Gate National Cemetery, and 12/19 wrapped free gifts for veterans' children for VA's Toys for Vets program.

Nov: Member Peggy Toye was honored by the San Mateo Veterans Commission as Patriot of the Year. The Post hosted its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Courthouse Square with local, county, statewide & Congressional reps at hand as well as ALA Girls State and TAL Boys & Girls State students being honored.

Oct: ALA volunteered for the SMCBSM Packing Day and Redwood City Elks Lodge Packing Day (300 boxes for deployed soldiers, 200 care bags for homeless veterans). SOS Breakfast was well attended, followed by volunteers and Boy Scouts fanning out (downtown and El Camino Real) to distribute Veterans Day Ceremony flyers for window display. Had Early Bird dinner before regular monthly Legion & ALA meetings.

Sep:  Members participated in the VA's Fisher House fundraiser; this is the third House being built for patient family members to reside in temporarily while the veteran seeks medical treatment. Coming soon: Oct 11: Early Bird dinner. Oct 14: SOS Breakfast followed by distribution of Veterans Day flyers downtown. Oct 21: participating in RWC Elks Lodge Packing Day.

Aug: Two of our four CA Girls State Citizens reported back to our Unit on their experiences at our annual brunch. 

Jul: With a $500 donation from a women's org and $250 from the Post, U105 donated $750 to purchase BBQ lunches for Bldg. 331 patients. Post participated in the RWC Fourth of July parade.

Jun: Elections will be held for the single slate: President Carol Rael, 1st VP Pauline Robinson, 2nd VP Wendy Weller, Secretary Cindy McReynolds, Treasurer Brenda Ternullo. Members attended the Cypress Lawn Cemetery's June 16 flag retirement ceremony and followed by 6/17 mini-packing day for San Mateo County Blue Star Moms (packaging care boxes for soldiers deployed). CA Girls State chairwoman Peggy and Secretary Cindy volunteered at the six-day CAGS conference; Peggy led this year's Service Project: "Letters from Home" which will be delivered this fall for Honor Flight passengers during 'Mail Call.'

May. Post Family participated in 5/3 Fallen Peace Officers Ceremony at Redwood City Courthouse Square (no SM County officer lost since 2006). Long sleeve RED (Remember Everyone Deployed) t-shirts available at $30 each; contact cfr1946.CR@gmail.com to order. 

Apr. Donated $1000 clothing to Hearts for Humanity (benefiting vets & homeless). Poppy letters mailed. Footsteps rep spoke at Cmdr’s Coffee (before- and afterschool program, pre-K onward). Post Family donated $1950 towards Turkey Earthquake Relief via the Red Cross. 4/29 assisted BSM with care 150 boxes & 150 bags; other volunteer orgs include Auxiliary, Forester Financial, Young Mens Service League, Xi Pi Delta sorority, and National Charity League, and Nation’s Finest. 6/8 SM Fair: 12noon USMC opening ceremony with P105 booth (11am-3pm). 

Mar: RED s/l t-shirts sold by Carol B & Sandy at the Elks Lodge. Feb's Cmdr’s Coffee: balance training to prevent falls by member Kim A; everyone’s welcomed to the Coffees. Planning annual May Poppy Drive. 4/1 Post's Car Show had 102 cars and 180 meals served.

Jan: SOS Breakfast a success. 1/25 Cmdr's Coffee hosted Warrior Canine Connection; Fundraiser: RED T-shirts available.  1.6.24

UNIT 238, 555 BUEL AVENUE, PACIFICA

Dec: Participated in & donated to Wreaths Across America at Golden Gate National Cemetery, donation made to the Pacifica Resource Center and the USO. Special Pacific Senior Center donation made in memory of Doretta Youngdahl, 103, who passed away. Prepping annual St. Valentine's Day benefit for Girls State and TAL Boys & Girls State. Collecting books, DVDs and CDs for Colma Veterans Village.

Nov: 11/11 Early Bird spaghetti dinner for the entire Post; free for any paid members, raffle. 

Oct: Look for Nov 11 Early Bird dinner (free to veterans). Dec 7 will be our annual potluck. Submitted Girls State school reservations.

Sep: Participated in National Night Out and marched in the Fogfest Parade. Girls State Citizens came to our meeting to share their experiences.

Aug: An overflowing crowd of ~300 attended the Celebration of Life for Jeanne Matysiak, our late Secretary and Girls State Chairwoman.

Jul: 7/15 Relay for Life: U238 supplied food for cancer survivors and participate opening ceremony. Rededicated our stone monument for Vietnam War fallen soldiers. July 4th fireworks sold as a fundraiser. 

May:  Unit Secretary & CAGS Chairwoman Jeanne Matysiak dies unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident. 

Mar: Successful 2/12 benefit for Boys State & Girls State with Mitzvah. Planning 6/3 ALA 5:30pm dinner. CAGS: Oceana, Terra Nova, Pacific Bay Christian.

Jan: 1/28 catered Chinese dinner by local Kenny’s Cafe (local Chinese restaurant) with 40 ppl attending. 2/12 benefit, 4-6pm. Proceeds benefit Boys State & Girls State with Mizpah. 1.6.24

UNIT 472 GEORGE TADLOCK VIRTUAL UNIT

Dec: Annual online Ugly Christmas Sweater party. 12/19 Panda Express online fundraiser, use Code 917729 to benefit Unit 472.

Nov: All members challenged to create 25 appreciation cards each for Kimberly's school district veteran employees. Cards were matched with a challenge coin (five military branch services on one side and school district log on the other). 

Oct: Members were challenged to create 25 cards each to give to Kimberly’s school district veteran employees; Val already finished her cards. Held successful online Tea-rrific Party which raised a good deal of funds for the (tea)pot. Director of Member Relations, Lauren, highlighted Jennifer L. as Member of the Month. Planned Panda Express fundraiser for Dec 19.

Sep: VP Allyn represented California volunteers at Girl Nation in July. Held an online Tea Party, complete with hats, teacups and saucers which raised funds for the Unit (see Home page).

Jun: Officers elected (President Kerry Finley, 1st VP Allyn Kao, Secy Valerie Hardy, Treasurer Diane Rapport). Held online Panda Express fundraiser in May. Forging ahead with Auxiliary CA Girls State organization. Over 450 girls attended CA Girls State; several U472 members serve as the 'braintrust' of CAGS: Allyn, Valerie, Kim, Kerry, et al. This year's Service Project were handmade cards from CAGS students to Honor Flight passengers in the fall.

Mar: Gained CAGS alumnus as a member and current CAGS delegate. 

Dec: Laid wreaths at Rest Haven Funeral Home & Cemetery, Rockwall, TX for Wreaths Across America. Annual Zoom Ugly Sweater Night held. New secretary: Valerie Hardy. 1.6.24

UNIT 474 COASTSIDE, 470 CAPISTRANO RD., HALF MOON BAY 

Dec: Made $250 donations to each org: ALAS (benefiting farm workers, named state of CA nonprofit of the year), HOPE, Sea Huggers, and Coastside Adult Day Care. Free Christmas dinner benefited 70-80 ppl. Celebrated with prime rib and darts on NYE.

Oct/Nov: 10/21 Very successful annual Jewelry Sale fundraiser. Nov 3 Blind Auction and free Thanksgiving dinner for veterans. Sat/Sun free music at 2pm.

Sep: Participated in Combat Vet Poker Run. Held fun Rocket Dog Rescue event. Post held an opening ceremony for their Reflection Garden (see video).

Jul: The Auxiliary once again hosted the Fourth of July meal celebration.

Jun. Current officers are slated for re-election next weekend: President Marylan Askins, VP Susan Schabinger, Secretary Janet Kluzik, and Treasurer Jane Major. Unit will host Fourth of July lunch.

May: Raised membership fee to $40. 5/29 Memorial Day ceremony followed by BBQ hosted by the Unit; vets eat for free. 

Mar: Super Bowl potluck. Feb’s Soup Sunday had ~50 ppl & seven soups. 4/30 Planning ALA booth at Pacific Coast Dream Machine @HMB Airport.

Jan: Paris Peace Accord BBQ (brought Vietnamese veterans). Rocket Dog Rescue visit, nine dogs adopted and two fostered. 1.6.24

UNIT 585 LLOYD J. TOBEY, 1159 BUSH STREET, SAN CARLOS

Dec: Tree-trimming party included pizzas purchased by the U585, Ugly Sweater party (Bonnie won again), and NYE party included live music.

Nov: Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches, donations welcomed. Anticipated tree trimming event (check FB link below) and NYE party with live music.

Oct: Donated $800 worth of goods/supplies to Life Moves, organization which helps homeless vets. Donated $400 to RWC Elks Lodge Packing Day for Troops & Veterans. No Oct 8 breakfast; members volunteering at the San Carlos Art & Wine Fesitval Oct 7-8. 10/15 Karaoke Night and steak dinner. Next breakfasts are 10/22 and 11/3. 11/11 BBQ/potluck, 1-4pm. 

Sep: Labor Day BBQ raised donation funds. Sunday Breakfasts 9/10 & 9/24. 

Jul: Participated in the Fourth of July parade.

Jun: Joint Post and Unit installation planned for June 13. Sunday Breakfasts on June 4 and June 18. 

May: Cinco de Mayo potluck & karaoke a success.  5/20, participated in San Carlos Hometown Parade. 5/21 breakfast. Last Friday: music. 5/29 Memorial Day ceremony, followed by music, Los Trancos, and donated food. April parking lot sale raised funds. Hosted District 26's annual Girls State Tea with over 60 guests--Delegates, family, Auxiliary members and Legionnaires.

Mar: San Carlos. Super Bowl Party. 3/12 & 3/26 Breakfast.3/17 St. Patrick’s Day 12noon sandwiches & 6:30pm karaoke.  4/1 Italian Night dinner, 5:30pm. Donated $1000 to Canines for Warriors. 

Dec: Ugly Sweater Party. Eggnog Party. Xmas brunch and NY Day brunch (Terry Tracy donated/hosted both events). 1/8 breakfast, 1/22 breakfast. Band Anniversary tonight (details tbd).
