Happy Holidays 2021

All six Units fulfilled veterans Wish List for holiday gifts. This annual program benefits long- & short-term patients at our adopted VA-Menlo Park campus' Bldg 331. Due to COVID-19, we're not allowed to hand-deliver the gifts this year and, sadly, the annual holiday party was canceled.

District officers facilitate and coordinate Unit knowledge sharing and best practices. The District serves as a conduit of information from the Department (state-level) to Units about events, obligations, news and guidelines.

UNIT 82, 130 SOUTH BLVD., SAN MATEO

NEWS. Nov/Dec: Hosted events benefiting Colma Veterans Village (CVV)--Bingo Night, Crabfeed, karaoke. Supply donations made to CVV as well. Toys for Vets @VA-Menlo Park. Planned Feb 11 recognition dinner of local fire fighters veterans. Donation made to Coins for Cops. Oct: Memorial Services for long-time member Luella Dilling will be held Nov 10. Unit donated a TV for the VA-MP rec room and paper products to Colma Veterans Village. Free music by "Blue Jays' on Nov 14. Dec 10 is the annual Crabfeed. Sep: Oct 30 Halloween Party. Girls State Citizen presented at last meeting. Sunday bakery goods giveaway. Aug: With SAL, donated $1,000 to VA-MP Suicide Prevention June Fundraiser. Adopted board/care facility, Colma Veterans Village. Held a Flea Market and continue with Sunday food giveaways. Planning stages: firefighter recognition and October dance. Mar: planned May prime rib dinner. Feb 2021: Completed Girls State selection. 1.8.22

NEWS. Nov/Dec: Dec 16 Toys for Vets @ VA-Menlo Park, Dec 18 Wreaths Across America @ Golden Gate National Cemetery. Assist Blue Star Moms w/care boxes for overseas soldiers and care bags for homeless vets. Planned Outing: San Mateo High's "Crazy for You" production on Feb. 6; all are welcomed to join. Oct: Post Family (Legion, Aux, Sons & Riders) donated $3739.86 to the VA-PA Suicide Prevent Program. Donated $100 towards Veterans Day celebration at RWC Courthouse Square and $100 towards VA-MP's holiday party. City proclamation issued. The Aux & Post donated food for Colma Veterans Village. GoFundMe raised $1000 to benefit 23rd Marines Regiment & National Guard to meet expenses. Nov 12 "Hoops for Troops" Warriors v Bulls fundraiser for SM County Blue Star Moms. Sep: Started monthly Commander's Coffee for members, last Wednesday of the month, 9am-12noon. Entire Post family to participate in Veterans Day celebration with our Girls & Boys State Citizens. Gearing up for VA holiday gift program. Aug: USS Hornet field trip. Planning for VA holiday gift program & partnering with College Park Girl Scouts. Jul: Over 3,225 pairs of shoes collected for our joint-fundraiser with BSM. Post Family field trip to USS Hornet. Jun: Successful Rummage Sale with SM County Blue Star Moms. Scheduled Sep 12 Girls State Citizens Brunch with members. Mar: Girls State Delegates registered. Planned Parking Lot Sale, June 5. Feb: Delivered Girl Scouts' handmade gifts to VA-Menlo Park patients. Jan 2021: Launched year-round online fundraiser of coffee beans/grounds, teas, and tasty snacks--www.tinyURL.com/U105GivingBean. NEWS. Nov/Dec: Delivered truckload of supplies Colma Veterans Village. Nov 11 dedication of Memorial for Pacifican veterans and city proclamation. Planned: Jan 16 Chinese dinner; Feb 13 St. V's Day fundraiser for Girls State & Boys State; Mar 19 St. Patrick's Day celebration; Apr 16 "Worst Dress" Day; and May 7 Cinco de Mayo. June/July fireworks sale fundraiser. Oct: Over 30 community orgs acknowledged at the celebration dinner; these orgs kept the Post afloat during the Post's COVID closure. U238 delivering donated foods from District Units to Colma Veterans Village. Sep: Oct 10 Appreciation Dinner for Unit's & Post's supportive orgs. Aug: Successful July fireworks fundraiser. Connecting with member shut-ins by phone. Plans for Oct 9 recognition event for Post supporters--VFW, Native Sons, etc. and "Christmas in January" event. Mar: Donated pens, notepads, paper, supplies for D26 spring gift bags. Feb food truck was East Indian fare. Jan 2021: Post renovations continue. U238 Jan 2021 Newsletter. UNIT 472 GEORGE TADLOCK VIRTUAL UNIT

NEWS. Dec: Ugly Sweater Zoom social and donations for VA-Menlo Park holiday gift program. Gearing up to manage the statewide 2022 Girls State program. Sep: Continue to host Girls State Citizens to join their meetings. Aug: Sponsored ten Girls State delegates; planning to invite them, their counselors & parents to Unit mtgs to keep the community going. Jun: Members managed a fantastic GIRLS STATE five-day virtual session with 440 Citizens. Brava! May: Hosted fundraiser & painting event. Mar: Donated funds to support D26's spring gift bags. Extended Girls State program to help out-of-county Units enlist more students. Feb: created St. V's Day & appreciation cards for VA-MP patients in bldg 331. Jan 2021: Celebrated in Dec with a Zoom Ugly Sweater social. During Jan's meeting created St. Valentine's Day cards for patients at VA-Menlo Park and delivered by VA&R Deputy Arlene. This year marks U472's 15th anniversary. 8.7.21

UNIT 474 COASTSIDE, 470 CAPISTRANO RD., HALF MOON BAY

NEWS. Nov/Dec: Free Thanksgiving meal for ~75 ppl and free Christmas meal for ~55-60 ppl. Oct: Weekend social events with live music are a big hit. Free Veterans Day tri-tip lunch for veterans, $20 for others. Sep: Weekend live music, 2-5pm. Labor Day weekend breakfasts were highly attended. Aug: Successful July 4 celebration for entire Post. Jewelry Sale Aug 21 @Post parking lot. Labor Day BBQ, 12-3pm. Planning: Veterans Day & Thanksgiving celebration. May: Resuming business after pandemic hiatus with plans for Memorial Day & July 4. Mar: members resumed mtg & donated funds for D26 spring gift bags for VA patients. Completed Girls State interviews. Jan 2021: Super Bowl outdoor tri-tip BBQ. Post reopened. BBQs outdoor on football days. All officers reelected to fulfill 2020-2021 term. 1.8.22

UNIT 585, 1159 BUSH STREET, SAN CARLOS

NEWS. Nov/Dec: Donated $500 to Colma Veterans Village. Boosters donated to VA's Fisher House and Unit donated coffee to VA-Menlo Park. Veterans Day luncheon. Breakfast every other Sunday. Oct: Nov 14 lasagna dinner. Booster donated funds to VA's Fisher House and coffee to VA-MP. Nov 24 Karaoke night. Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches being offered. Donated $500 to Colma Veterans Village. Sep: Labor Day BBQ social. Saturday night karaoke. Parking lot sale Oct 2. Oct 17 BBQ benefiting VA's Fisher House. Aug: Major donation to Defenders Lodge at VA-Palo Alto. Huge Coffee donation to VA-Menlo Park Bldg 331. Sunday breakfasts can be found on D26 Calendar. May: Memorial Day event planned, Sunday breakfasts resumed, and June Karaoke anticipated. Mar 2021: Kareoke and St. Pat socials are successes. See D26 home page for pics of team creating gift bags in March. Completed Girls State selection. Feb: Successful blood drive with 26 donors, Sunday breakfast had 48 outdoor guests. St. Patrick's Day sandwiches to-go. Jan: Super Bowl BBQ and chili contest 2pm. Post is open 9am-9pm, outdoor TV, social distancing, face mask required. Dec Drive-Thru Crabfeed a success. Feb 25 Blood Drive planned. 1.8.22
