Ikeda-shi Teien is located in Daisen, Akita. Ikeda-shi is known for one of the three biggest landowners in Tohoku, with Homma-shi in Yamagata, and Saito-shi in Miyagi. The garden was originally built during the Meiji era, but as the buildings collapsed due to an earthquake, the premises expanded and completed in the Taisho era. The garden is shaped hexagonally, and designed like a turtle shell, which is the family crest of Ikeda-shi: Kikkokikyo.
Ikeda-shi Teien was selected as a national place of scenic beauty in 2004. It was designed by Yasuhei Nagaoka, who is the pioneer of modern gardening, and is highly valued from the perspective of academic and history.
