Noshiro Port Festival Fireworks dates back to 1958, started as a recovery event after the second conflagration in Noshiro. The fireworks were extremely great, exhibited in the night sky in Akita every summer, aside from fireworks in Omagari. Nevertheless, in 1980, this event was canceled for various factors and the situation continued for approximately two decades. However, people in Noshiro had been requesting the resurgence of the firework event and finally it has started again since 2003. The scale of fireworks has been becoming greater and greater.
Visitors can enjoy extremely great-scale fantastical fireworks with music. Although there are some other fireworks events in Tohoku, this is the only event in Tohoku where you can see sanshakudama, a ball that measures around 3 feet across, launched many times in a row. The total number of fireworks in 2023 was 15,000. This event impresses the audience in July every year.
This event is supported by volunteers in Noshiro, including residents, high school students, and companies, who prepare for the site and clean the day after the event.
