Choose a story from Simiona 1979. You will each work on a different story.

Translate this story from Māori into English. Make two different translations.

One that sticks as closely as possible to the Māori while making good sense in English. This one is aimed at lane learners so that when they read the original and your translation they can carefully match up each phrase and start to figure out the patterns.

Then make a second translation. This one is for an audience who want a good flowing story in English. Try to find English expressions that are equivalent to the Māori. In this translation you want the audience to feel the same feeling that you do when you hear the story in Māori.
