One of the assessment form CM211 2018 aksed the students to write two lesson plans that incorporated one of the story telling tools that we had learnt to use.
One lesson was for children in the pāꞌenua who use Māori by preference and one lesson was for young adults who are learning Māori as a second language.
This is a model type of lesson I quite often teach.
Give a short lecture about the target material (e.g. grammar oriented topics: nominal sentences, a/o possession, the four kinds of two participant verbal sentences. e.g. topic oriented what I did in the weekend, how to sew a ꞌei, etc)
Get them making short stories in groups using one of the story prompt methods. Make sure they make note of which content is the target content and check this at some stage.
Get them to live perform the stories (film these)
Get them to re-present the story using one of the digital story telling tools.
Upload both versions.
Get them to make the subtitles - Māori first then English.
Optionally - get them to write this up on their portfolio and discuss the target content.
Depending on how long you give them to make the story this might take two to three hours.
