I asked the students to compose short stories in their assignment and in their exam in LL191 in 2018. I also asked them to write short stories to demonstrate the use of the various types of sentences and grammatical constructions we were learning about. I'm going to post some of the little stories I use to model particular grammatical constructions.
This story models some negative sentences and other types of negation in Māori.
Kāre te poke i pou i āku. Kua pou te poke i a Temu. Kāre aia i te tangata tuatua pono! Kāre aia i ꞌaere ki te ꞌāpiꞌi i tēia rā. Kua noꞌo aia i te kāinga ē ka kai aia i tā mātou poke katoa. Kua tunua te poke e tōku metua tāne. Kāre e tunua e au, inārā ka riri au i a Temu. Kāre aia i te tungāne meitaki. ꞌE tungāne kangakanga kino aia. Kua matepongi au i te poke kore.
