Otaku Culture: anime music video
A.M.V is an Otaku-slang phrase (Otaku Lexicon). The abbreviation refers to the phrase "anime music video". It is a video that consists of Japanimation set to an audio track that is usually made for promotional purposes. Original (O.A.M.V.) have its own original animation, such as "Interstella 5555" by Daft Punk and should not be confused with A.M.V. or F.M.V.

1: A type of video edited by fans which mixes anime footage with an audio track.
Usage
Early usage: Western Otaku who wanted to experience a more visual experience with visual impacts that would encourage people to watch a series or many series and check out a musician would create AMVs. Internet websites would widely distribute such works and Anime conventions would have AMV contests to highlight and show those with video editing skills in the otaku community.
