The Longmont Concert Band was founded by Robert Crow, who, when he moved to Longmont in re;rement, wanted a place to play his instrument. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945 as a member of an Air Force Band in Tampa, Florida, and was a former member of Denver’s John Phillip Sousa Band. Robert Crow passed away on Dec. 12, 2008 at the age of 84.
Longmont Concert Band members have ranged in age from 16 to 82. Since its formation in 2003, the band has grown from a group of 15 players to over 85 players today, with a complete wind band instrumentation. Comprised of amateur musicians, music educators, and volunteer professionals from Longmont and the surrounding area, the band provides a forum for area musicians to build community and a passion for music performance.
Francisco Borja is a Mexican conductor, clarinetist, and music educator. He holds a Master of Music in Wind Conducting and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Borja has performed and conducted internationally in prestigious ensembles including MidEurope's World Youth Wind Orchestra Project, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles World Youth Wind Symphony, and Music for All's Honor Band of America. He has also been a participant in several conducting workshops led by esteemed conductors Jamie L. Nix, Kevin Geraldi, Mallory Thompson, and Jerry F. Junkin.
Currently, Borja is the Director of Bands and Mariachi at Timberline PK8, where he was honored as Teacher of the Year for 2023/2024.
Beyond his work in the classroom, Borja serves as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Longmont Concert Band. Under his baton since June 2022, the ensemble has achieved significant recognition, earning an invited performance at Carnegie Hall in May of 2025.
