The Association of Concert Bands is pleased to announce a Call for Composer Works for consideration for upcoming ACB Music Reading Sessions, including the ACB 2027 Convention in Denver and ACB Regional Connections Events. This is a wonderful opportunity to place your music in front of community band musicians and conductors from across the country and to introduce ACB audiences to the creativity of our growing community of composers.
This year, we are creating one submission process to give our ACB Member Composers the opportunity to have their music considered for reading sessions across multiple ACB events.
ACB Member Composers are invited to submit works for consideration. If you are not an ACB Member Composer, you may join on the submission form.
Composers may submit up to three works for consideration. We especially encourage music appropriate for community bands, ideally in the Grade 2–5 range.
For each composition, please be prepared to provide:
Title
Publisher
Duration
Grade level
Program notes and/or special considerations (PDF or Word)
PDF of the full score
MP3 or other audio recording
Suggested sections or measure numbers to be read if the entire composition cannot be performed (text box entry)
Because reading session time is limited, pieces longer than four minutes may not be played from beginning to end. We encourage composers to identify portions of their work that would provide musicians and conductors with the best introduction to the piece.
Composers whose works are selected will be notified which ACB event(s) will include their music. The same composition may or may not be selected for both the ACB Convention and a Regional Connections Event.
If selected, the composer will be responsible for ensuring that one complete set of printed parts is available for the reading session. Additional information regarding submission of printed music will be provided to selected composers.
For the ACB Convention Reading Session, selected works will feature music by ACB Member Composers. Regional Connections reading sessions will also highlight ACB members while allowing flexibility to include additional works of regional interest.
December 1, 2026 (to be considered for the ACB 2027 Convention in Denver)
