Members of ACB who have attended Mark Morette’s and Sarah McElfresh’s sessions on copyright previous conventions were introduced to important concepts and information regarding copyright and licensing from the perspective of band directors. This session by Dr. Steven L. Rosenhaus, author of "The Concert Composer’s Business Handbook", flips that perspective to that of the composer, or arranger, or publisher, with the intent to clarify the need for copyright and the protections it offers both music creators and the musicians who perform their works.

Dr. Steven L. Rosenhaus
Steven L. Rosenhaus is a true multi-hyphenate composer, arranger, conductor, lyricist, author, dramaturge, educator, performer, and actor. His music has been called “clever, deftly constructed and likable” by The New York Times; the Sächsiche Zeitung (Dresden, Germany) declares it “expressive....Its song-like melodic sequences and balladic aspects give it a lyrical beauty, within a newer soundworld.” His compositions and arrangements are performed by the New York Philharmonic, the Kansas City Symphony, the US Navy Band, The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Plymouth, the Meridian String Quartet, pianist Laura Leon, and community and educational ensembles throughout the United States, Canada, and the E.U. Dr. Rosenhaus holds a Ph.D. from New York University where he taught composition for over 30 years; he now does master classes, clinics, and workshops for musicians. He has over 250 compositions and arrangements published. He has consulted as a dramaturge on ±30% of musicals presented on Broadway and off-Broadway over the past 25 years. Dr. Rosenhaus is the author of The Concert Composer’s Business Handbook and The Concertgoer’s Guide to the Symphony Orchestra, and is co-author with Allen Cohen of Writing Musical Theater.
