This session will demystify the music commissioning process for your ensemble. I will discuss how to plan and fund a music commission for your ensemble, how to determine if a composer is the correct "fit" for your needs, and how to work with a composer to plan a perfectly tailored musical creation for your group. I will also discuss methods to make the most of your commission’s premiere performance.

Kevin Czarnik
Kevin Czarnik is the director of bands at Croswell-Lexington Middle School and High School in Croswell, Michigan. He received a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in Instrumental Conducting from Wayne State University and a PhD in Music Education from Oakland University. He has been the conductor of the Royal Oak (Michigan) Concert Band since 2015 and is the founding director of the Croswell-Lexington Community Band. He also leads the Session III Begian Band and teaches the conducting minor class at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan.
