Pitch Lab was a free community workshop held in preparation for the Aberdour SOUP: Big Community Pitch event. It brought residents together to explore ideas, connect with others, and begin shaping projects inspired by the priorities identified through the Aberdour Community Action Plan consultation.
The session was an opportunity to move from identifying community needs to imagining practical projects that could create a positive impact in Aberdour.
👉 Learn more about Aberdour SOUP - the Big Community PitchThe workshop began with an overview of the main findings from the Community Action Plan consultation, helping everyone understand the key themes and priorities that had emerged from the community’s feedback.
Participants then worked in smaller groups around five key themes:
Village assets
Managing seasonal pressure
Movement and road safety
Nature and environment
Services and community
Using creative thinking exercises, the groups explored different perspectives on local challenges and generated a wide range of ideas.
One particularly interesting exercise involved deliberately creating “bad ideas” and then turning them around to discover new possibilities and unexpected solutions.
After a short lunch break, participants chose ideas they were interested in developing further and worked in small teams to explore how these could become realistic community projects.
Groups considered questions such as:
What does the idea look like?
Where could it happen?
How could it be delivered?
What benefit would it bring to the community?
How would we know it is working?
Who could be involved?
When could it happen?
What challenges might need to be overcome?
What would someone in Aberdour say about it?
The workshop ended with each group pitching their idea back to everyone. This gave participants the chance to practise communicating their ideas and receive feedback before the Aberdour SOUP event.
Several ideas began taking shape during the workshop, including:
A proposal to create a community orchard with fruit trees near Silver Sands, providing a shared space for nature, community involvement, and local food growing.
A project to create more opportunities for children to engage with nature through a local nature club linked to the school.
An online hub bringing together information about local groups, businesses, activities, and events.
The idea could also support a community calendar, skill sharing, and physical information boards to help residents and visitors stay connected.
If you liked any of the ideas from the lab (or have a new idea to propose) and would you like to help developing the project, get in touch!
We can connect you with others interested in taking these ideas forward, or help you find more collaborators.
Submit your proposal through the Aberdour SOUP application form by 27th July 2026.
