Stories are told across the Systems of a powerful being: Aequilibria, god of balance and equilibrium. It is said that if one were to upset them by upsetting the balance, they would place one of their many hexes upon them to get them to learn their lesson. Only a select few have been able to see this being’s true form; those who have are treated as chosen agents of balance. Legends say that Aequilibria was once appointed by a power even higher than them, a Primordial being of balance.

The Hexes are temporary curses – often based around equilibrium and stability – that they force on people who upset the balance.
1-X: A Dance of Fire and Ice “But this is ‘positive angular acceleration’”
Name: The Contrarion’s Leash
Disruption Type: Instability
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used for those who are either reckless (barreling though hazards without consideration), or for those who over-hesitate (pausing in place rather than taking action.)
Effect: “Forces the target’s sense of speed and momentum to fluctuate wildly.”
(Affects how fast the target thinks things are moving, timing, driving, reaction time…) “The target’s own body feels like it’s being yanked faster/slower than reality.”
How to Undo: Victim must regain control by matching pace with someone else.
2-X: Offbeats “But every external angle will have an ice midspin”
Name: Winter’s Claim
Disruption Type: Environmental Control
Severity: Existential-Level
Trigger: Used when someone is hot-headed or escalates heat instead of cooling things down.
Effect: Curses the area around a person to be icy cold, summoning ice and frost around them passively. The longer this curse is in effect, the more the ice starts to spread, potentially even spreading underfoot and making walking uncertain.
How to Undo: Victim must de-escalate a/the conflict they helped enflame and offer care to the harmed party (apology + repair).
3-X: THE WIND-UP “But detection depends on the left and right side of your keyboard”
Name: The Puppet’s Curse
Disruption Type: Overstability
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used for those who rely on others for everything; now they must personally manage every aspect of their life manually.
Effect: Forces one’s movements to be manual. (Like Manual Sam) Specifically, motor movements like walking and using hands, you now have to be fully aware of these things (no more easy typing, no more easy walking, but you don’t have to be aware of things like breathing, blinking, or your heartbeat.)
How to Undo: Victim must perform a complex, sustained task successfully without giving up, proving they’ve learned respect for effort.
4-X: Love Letters “But timing window increases upwards, and decreases in reverse”
Name: Judge’s Whim
Disruption Type: Instability
Severity: Nuisance-Level
Trigger: For those who complain about strictness without understanding why rules exist or abuse leniency for personal gain, this curse forces them to realize the value of balance.
Effect: Forces the affected’s life to flip-flop between two extremes at random: extreme strictness and extreme leniency.
(An example of extreme strictness could be leaving something in the toaster for a second too long and immediately burning it. An example of extreme leniency could be being an hour too late to school with no consequences at all.)
How to Undo: Victim must prove they understand when to respect rules and when to bend them, either “deliberately following a rule that isn’t being enforced in lenient mode or choosing to break a draconian [harsh/severe] rule in strict mode.”
5-X: The Midnight Train “But I am pointing downward, and the addition of an equilateral triangle and pseudo notes makes the music more interesting”
Name: The Earth’s Call
Disruption Type: Distortion
Severity: Existential-Level
Trigger: Used on people who refuse humility – “too high and mighty”.
Effect: Compels the affected to be as low to ground level as they can be (likely resulting in them lying on the floor of the basement). If this goes on for too long, the victim might try to dig their way underground to get even further down.
How to Undo: “Victim must genuinely humble themselves – not self-deprecation, but a sincere lowering of pride.”
6-X: PULSE “But the two balls were pulled back a little”
Name: The Fanatic’s Allure
Disruption Type: Distortion
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: “Marks those who fixate or obsess – gravitating toward harmful attractions”
Effect: “Magnetizes” the affected towards certain things. (Less physical, more mental.)
(“Pulled back” → “pulled towards”; a location, an idea, whether physically or the target being drawn towards certain things.)
How to Undo: “Victim must consciously choose distance from what attracts them.”
7-X: Spin 2 Win “But will the filter be triggered after a rotation (but it may fail)”
Name: The Aurora’s Veil
Disruption Type: Instability
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used for those who manipulate or deceive by altering perceptions of others.
Effect: Basically puts people on LSD; bombards their vision with colorful effects. Often also makes the target feel dizzyingly disoriented.
How to Undo: Victims must ground themselves through a stable anchor.
8-X: Jungle City “But right and left”
Name: Mirror’s Madness
Disruption Type: Distortion
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: “Used on those who twist truths, invert words, or reverse blame.”
Effect: Initially, all this Hex does is horizontally mirror a person’s vision, causing them to do everything reversed. The longer this is left in effect, though, it may start to extend beyond vision, affecting things like speech and comprehension of cause and effect.
How to Undo: Victim must accurately mirror someone else’s perspective – listen, restate, and prove understanding without distortion.
9-X: Classic Pursuit “But for bricks whose angle is divisble by 45 but not divisible by 90: the angle will be doubled + the BPM will be doubled”
(The track is reduced to right angles and straight tiles, with speed changes and pause tiles added to keep the rhythm the same)
Name: The Compass’ Manacle
Disruption Type: Restriction
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used on those who “cut corners” at the expense of others.
Effect: Locks the victim into only being able to move/act in the 4 cardinal directions. “If they try to act diagonally, it fails or snaps to the nearest axis.” Can still perceive diagonals, but can’t utilize them.
How to Undo: Victim must intentionally take the long way around, showing respect for the effort others put in.
10-X: Butterfly Planet “But 135˚ is dead”
Name: The Simpleton’s Hex
Disruption Type: Restriction
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used on those who refuse to think for themselves – “relying on being spoon-fed or only copying literal instructions.”
Effect: A mental counterpart to 12^X: “Non-linear thinking is shut down; they default to simple, literal, straight solutions.”
How to Undo: Victim must solve a problem without being told how.
11-X: Heracles “But each enclosed shape is repeated (number of edges/2) times + CPM*(number of edges/2)”
Name: The Echo’s Whisper
Disruption Type: Overstability
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used on those who dismiss others' struggles as repetitive or who constantly complain about tedium while benefiting from it. Must learn that repetition shapes progress.
Effect: “Forces the target into compulsive repetition,” “unable to stop until they’ve repeated it a set number of times.”
Alternatively/similarly, traps the victim in “loops of déjà vu.” Things repeat multiple times before they can move forward, like localized instances of Groundhog Day/time loops.
How to Undo: Victim must intentionally break a cycle, not by brute force, but by shifting their mindset (Instead of angrily enduring a repeated conversation, they sincerely change what they say or do.)
12-X: Artificial Chariot “But without overly complicated rhythms”
Name: The Toddler’s Trial
Disruption Type: Restriction
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used on those who refuse to act for themselves, relying on others to do the hard work for them.
Effect: Makes it so the affected cannot do anything “complicated” (if a toddler can’t do it, neither can they.)
How to Undo: Victim must act through a complex situation on their own.
XF-X: Third Wave Flip Flop “But tiles > 180˚ have a fire midspin”
Name: Summer’s Domination
Disruption Type: Environmental Control
Severity: Existential-Level
Trigger: Used on those who are cold and indifferent – withholding warmth/empathy when it’s needed.
Effect: Curses the area around a person to be unbearably hot no matter where they are, and might summon flames if things last for too long. Pulsates in waves; sometimes, it’s only mildly uncomfortable, other times it’s unbearable, and often surges between the two states.
How to Undo: Victim must “perform a sustained act of gentle warmth under control”. “Demonstrated temperance of heat steadies the surges until they fade.”
XH-X: Final Hope: "But each inner triple bend (or rhythm) must become a triangle (or rhythm)"
Name: ???
Disruption Type: ???
Severity: ???
Trigger: ???
Effect: ???
How to Undo: ???
XM-X: Miko Skip “But the u-turns have lost their meaning”
Name: The One-Way Road
Disruption Type: Restriction
Severity: Disabling/Existential-Level (context matters)
Trigger: Used on those too prideful to admit their mistakes or back down from their stance.
Effect: “Victims lose the ability to recognize or use ‘turning back’.” Perhaps any time they try to turn (or specifically turn around), they just end up going forward with it. The concepts of reversals or retreats are completely flipped for them.
How to Undo: Victim must “humble themselves by directly seeking forgiveness or retracing their steps.”
XN-X: Trans Neptunian Object “But some tracks related to Hexagon have been converted to DLC”
Name: Fractured Mind
Disruption Type: Instability
Severity: Existential-Level
Trigger: “For those who simplify the struggles of others.”
Effect: “Simple actions/forces split into three concurrent tasks, which must be balanced simultaneously.”
“A simple thought like ‘open the door’ fractures into three parallel demands: ‘unlock the door’, ‘push the door’, ‘hold the door steady’.” While these three tasks aren’t overly complicated, the unexpected fracturing of one task into three might disorient the victim, and there is the potential that these tasks fracture even further, making things exponentially more complicated. “Failure in one unbalances the rest.”
Also, triplicate = duplicate, but with three.
How to Undo: Victim must accept that they can’t balance everything; choose one thread and let the other two collapse.
XR-X: Rose Garden “But the degrees of the triangles are reversed”
Name: The Balancer’s Mockery
Disruption Type: Instability
Severity: Nuisance-Level
Trigger: For those who either obsess over order or who thrive on destabilizing others, while pretending to be the stable one.
Effect: Curses items around the victim (and sometimes the victim themselves) to oscillate/swap between balanced and off-balance/symmetrical and asymmetrical.
(Ex: A table near the victim might start to wobble slightly, maybe because one of its legs is too long or too short. If the table was already wobbly, however, the curse may temporarily stabilize the table.)
(Sometimes makes life harder, sometimes makes life easier, but the randomness of it makes it a curse regardless.)
How to Undo: “Restore balance by stabilizing something external – propping up a wobbly chair, catching a falling object, lending balance to another person.”
XS-X: Party of Spirits “But only a certain rhythm is allowed to exist on the score (those that do not meet the requirements will be modified or “blanked out”)”
Name: The Hollow Veil
Disruption Type: Environmental Control
Severity: Existential-Level
Trigger: Used against people who erase, censor, or edit out inconvenient truths (gaslighting, taking credit, or cutting others from the story/environment).
Effect: Removes parts/factors of the environment as Aequilibria sees fit. Erased factors look like ghosts of what they used to be, like faint outlines or a shimmering mirage.
How to Undo: Victims must name and restore what they removed, publicly acknowledging the missing pieces. “When all omissions are owned, the world unblanks.”
ML-X: La nuit de vif “But the z-curve and 5-curve are turned into folding screens”
Name: The Editor’s Blunder
Disruption Type: Distortion
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Used on those who intentionally stall progress.
Effect: “Victims are forced into unnatural pauses, and when their motion resumes, it’s misaligned: displaced in timing, position, or orientation where it should have been.”
How to Undo: The victim must initiate forward motion – “taking the first step toward reconciliation, progress, or action that they’ve been stalling.”
MN-X: Night Wanderer “But to make the vocals the priority, I re-charted the song”
Name: The Siren’s Serenade
Disruption Type: Distortion
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: “Punishes those who silence others’ voices.”
Effect: Sings a hypnotic song, drowning out the affected’s inner voice, making Aequilibria’s voice the priority.
“Think of it like living without a narrator in your head – your actions still flow, but they’re hollow and eerily detached. The curse tilts them toward echoing Aequilibria’s song, speaking/singing what isn’t theirs.”
How to Undo: Victim must step back and amplify anothers’ voice. Even if all that means is listening fully and letting another’s voice “cut through the song.”
RJ-X: Fear Grows “But multitaps are replaced with hold notes”
Name: The Relentless March
Disruption Type: Overstability
Severity: Existential-Level
Trigger: Made for those who never finish what they start, abandoning projects, relationships, or duties halfway.
Effect: Once the victim starts an action, they can’t stop until it naturally ends. “Speaking until their throat hurts, walking until exhaustion, or holding onto an object too long.”
How to Undo: Victim must willingly stop an action mid-course. Sometimes leaving things unfinished is the wiser choice.
T1-(E)X: NEW LIFE “But the hold notes are replaced by pause tiles, and the track is more accurate”
Name: The Timekeeper’s Hold
Disruption Type: Overstability
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: Given to those who rush through without reflection.
Effect: Freezes the target in place at random (or maybe after certain stimuli). While paused, they’re aware of everything but unable to act.
The specific stimuli can be chosen by the user, but often default to specific yet common sounds.
Unfreezes when either the stimulus ends or the set timer runs out (timer can be anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.)
How to Undo: Victim must use their frozen time to reflect and “formulate a decision they wouldn’t have made otherwise.”
T4-(E)X: Third Sun: "But even if the DLC is broken it's still 'like DLC'"
Name: Empty Imitations
Disruption Type: Distortion/Environmental Control
Severity: Disabling-Level
Trigger: For those who take “seamless systems” for granted; for “people who never notice the invisible scaffolding (infrastructure, routines, background helpers) until it’s broken.”
Effect: “Reliable things get swapped with inferior knockoffs”. Things still function, but in ways that force inefficiency, awkwardness, or embarrassment.
(Ex: You somehow take for granted the air conditioning in your house, and it gets replaced with a broken fan that sort of gets the job done, but definitely isn’t preferable.)
How to Undo: Victim must intentionally repair, maintain, or show care to one of the replacements, acknowledging and appreciating the things they took for granted.
