which shot types are used and at which moments why?
losts of long shots to show the ensamle and eveything thats going on around on stage - techinacl elements( lights ) set
what is the average shot duration? are specific shots quicker or slower?
slow shots this gives the story more depth and we can see everything thats giing on while on stage
what does this add to the story?
diversity - hazzards on stage, shot types
this extreme long shot is used in a lot of performances but we dont have the equipment for that so to improvise we could always stand on a chair to get a higher angle. the shot only lasts for a second to this to maybe increase the speed and make the dance more intense i liked this because it makes the dance dramatic and would like to use this effect in our production. cant see what he wearing in the shot but as the spotlights on him. pros of this performance is it sends a message within the dancing cons they are doing back flips which could not go to plan as well they also bring out fire which is a huge hazard.
this low angle would be good to capture the dancers foot movements getting close to the action this will be usefull for our dance live show as on of the styles is tap and thats all in the foot work this will have a good effect on the final edit. i like how the lights flash on very quickly making it more dramatic. pros- looks good cons the stage platforms could be unstable they also play with fire in the performance so they would have to have fire safety at all times but keep it all upstage to keep out of the way of the audience
this is an extreme long shot maybe either on a crane or drone could also be from a balcony this is done to get an overhead shot so we can see whats going on, on the platforms. in our production we were going to place a camera in our balcony but then didn't like how it was positioned and then when it would come to editing, putting all the clips together it would just look out of place.
beyonce glastonbury - obstuction, shot types
this shot is a extreame long shot but there is a issue as its not in the centre so when people rewatch the performance it dosent give the same effect as seeing it live just because off the off centre shot. the positioning of beyonce is center of the triangle this gives us the impression that its a well put together dance. i will take this into account when filming our live dance performance to make sure we keep it centered. i like the central composition as it adds a nice symertrical element
when this was filmed it was at glastonbury festival there was obviously a large audience and with a large audience comes with flags which gets in the way and blocks the performing act but this is down to the vision mixer to change the camera if they notice the camera is getting a bad shot. with this shot the the camera isnt actually that close its heavily zoomed in where as we can get up close and get some better shots.
0.37 (Beyoncé Glastonbury) in this editing they overlaid a clip of the audience with the actual performance its makes the final product a bit more interesting and not all the same shots this then will intrigue the target audience, yes in our production we didn't have an audience but if we did i would have wanted the editors to include this,
lady gaga super bowl- editing
(1 min) the transition where it zooms into the sky and then it soft dissolves to her coming down from the sky this is used to link the two clips together or a signal to the clip ending. i think dissolves would make some of the slower dance performances seem elegant.
(2.25 lady gaga pepsi) in this performance there is a lot of slow zooms in and out and i think that would look appealing in one of the contempary dances in the performance as well as close ups to capture their facial expressions as contempary dance is very theatrical. (3.03 for close up dolly ) we really wanted to use a dolly of a nice smooth shot maybe when they are in a line or all huddled together. but we didnt end up using it as it was too big and with the space we had it would have possibly got in the dancers way then that would have been a saftey hazard and with the cameras we set up the dolly would have got in the way of their shots.
this is a low angle from in the crowd, we won't have a crowd in our production which is an issue but we still want to include a low angle shot maybe when they are doing a tap number but maybe in editing they can add a crowd in to give it that effect. very dark lighting this is then focusing our attention to the platform where she is on, as the depth of field it is a shallow depth of field. she is in the middle of the shot bringing all the attention to the middle and it is our focal eye point. but it is a very extreame long shot which means its harder too see. with low angles it will be good for us too use and use someone to get right on the floor to utalise the space of the room
steps - shot types
this is a close up, this is then capturing the facial expressions of the performer this just makes the shot look cleaner with our production a lot of the dancers were trying to make sure they we always smiling, the blue light is a very common lighting choice with preformaces and somties it can be too dark and then when filming it barley shows up on camera. i think is because it has a shallow depth of field, and the rule of thirds give this shot symmetry with the leading lings on each side, it would be good if we used a shot like this as it looks sharper and we can clearly see whats going on.
we may not have drone like a lot of these performances have but we don't have access to a over head shot so this means we have to work with the lower shots this might make it look very similar and therefore having no variety. that is then now up to the editors job to add different transitions to make it have more depth, by making the shots hit the beat. here the lighting is too dark this makes it a lot harder too see this might be why they have put the dancers in brighter neon clothes. with the darker lighting it makes th final edit not look as clean and crisp. this is why we had a narrow appature to let in light as the opening is small.
(2.00 pan steps ) a pan can be a great way to capture all the dancers at once we can do this by using a dolly or a rig but the rig is a bit heavier so we will have to test it on the different camera operators to get a feel of who would be a better fit. and then we can get that smooth effect also a good way to split up the quicker shots and have a flowing motion.
